Description
Paris: Alliance Cinématographique Européenne, 1939. Wraps. Very Good. 4to. 31 by 24 cm. Unpaginated, 10 leaves, plus wraps. Seven films get a two page treatment; six, only a single page. Alliance Cinématographique Européenne was a distributor for films from several production companies, but it would appear, at the time of this publication, principally UFA, the largest German film company, although the publication does promote a French cast movie, "L'Entraineuse", which starred Michele Morgan, who was to soon head to Hollywood where she appeared in several American films during the Second World War. Other movies include "Hymne a la Neige", a Luis Trenker Alpine adventure; "Noix de Coco", with Raimu; "La Nuit Decisive" with Pola Negri; "La Belle Hongroise" with Swedish actress and alleged Nazi collaborator Zarah Leander; "Hotel Sacher", about the legendary Viennese hotel which more recently formed the basis for a German language mini-series. The graphics are rendered in orange and black and white, with photos mixed in with illustrations. The front cover is especially striking with a cobalt blue background and a Zodiac circle made up of a silver band and this surrounded by a wavy circle of green. Overlaying this cover is translucent wax paper with the title and company acronym printed on it. Scarce, with no institutional copied found on OCLC First Search. Condition: moderate wear.
