Description
Moskva: Zerna, 1918. First Edition. Good. First edition; 7 1/2 x 5 1/4; pp. [4], 7-190, [1]; color lithographed wraps with a Futurist design by Georgii Yakulov; rebacked, with some repairs to upper left margin of front wrap and corners; ffep a bit brittle along hinge; in good to very good condition. The most important poetry anthology of the Silver Age, it embraced Symbolism, Acmeism, and Futurism, and gathered the works of almost all of the most famous figures of the early twentieth-century Russian poetry. Some of the 48 contributors included Anna Akhmatova, Konstantin Balmont, Aleksandr Blok, Valery Bryusov, Ivan Bunin, David Burliuk, Andrey Belyi, Maximilian Voloshin, Zinaida Gippius, Nikolay Gumilev, Sergey Esenin, Ryurik Ivnev, Vasily Kamensky, Mikhail Kuzmin, Osip Mandelshtam, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Boris Pasternak, Fyodor Sologub, Igor Severyanin, Vladislav Khodasevich, Marina Tsvetaeva, and Ilya Ehrenburg. Of the 184 poems - 50 appeared here for the first time, including several of Pasternak's, Balmont's, Tsvetaeva's, and others. Intended to be published on a regular basis, the almanac was conceived as a review and exhibit of all poetic achievements. However, this first issue would also be the last, as such a tremendous project would prove impossible to sustain under wartime conditions. Arguably, this publication would mark the beginning of the end of the Silver Age. Its editor, also founder of the Zerna publishing house, was Mikhail Tsetlin (1882 - 1945), better known under his pen name Amari. He was a poet, dramatist, revolutionary, and translator, who would be persecuted and eventually would emigrate to the US in 1940. The stunning wraps of the book were designed by Georgii Yakulov (1884 - 1928) - graphic artist, stage designer, and painter, who was closely associated with many of the major art figures of the time and their various artistic movements, however, he maintained his own unique style and was never a member of any of the art groups.

Description
Tokyo: Shochiku Films, 1990. Draft script for the 1991 film, dated May 28, 1990, about a year before its release. A tale of three generations in a postwar Japanese family and their responses to the atomic bombing of Japan. When the film played at the Tokyo Film Festival, critics of Japanese militarism said Kurosawa had ignored the historical facts leading up to the bomb. Kurosawa's response was simple: he wanted his film to say that war was between governments, not people. Richard Gere plays one of the family's Asian-American cousins, a decision falling somewhere between stunt casting and commentary. Set in Nagasaki and shot on location there. Blue titled wrappers, dated 5.28.1990. Title page present. 166 leaves, with last page of text numbered 150. Mechanical duplication. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Near Fine. Rosenbaum 1000.

Description
Paris: Editions De La Maison Française, 1947. Hardcover. Loose as issued in orig. stiff wrappers front cover lettered in red, housed in fine board chemise in fine matching slipcase. Dignimont, Andre. 225 pages. 28.5 x 23 cm. Limited edition, copy 111 of 500. Color illustrations by Andre Dignimont and engraved on wood in colors by Gerard Angiolini. Text in French. Andre Dignimont, in a career spanning over four decades, primarily worked in illustrating books and theatre decoration. He formed a distinct personal style using washes of watercolor incorporated into pen and ink. This style perfectly evokes the emotions of this collection of Baudelaire's poetry which expresses the changing nature of beauty in modern, industrializing Paris during the 19th century and coined the term modernité (modernity) to designate the fleeting, ephemeral experience of life in an urban metropolis. Bookplate.

Description
Springfield, Illinois: Illinois Department of Public Health, 1935. Near-fine.. Two (2) public health booklets on sexually transmitted infections (referred to here as venereal disease), covering Syphilis and Gonorrhea, published for the general public by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Describes what the infections are, what dangers they pose, and how individuals can avoid catching and spreading the infections. Interesting to see what advice has, and has not, remained recommended by medical professionals today. Warns against "quack" medicine remedies, and states that "Nearly all prostitutes have gonorrhea". Each booklet ends with a stark warning that knowingly exposing others to infection is illegal and could incur a fine. An excellent resource for investigating contemporary attitudes, and efforts to curb the spread of, sexually transmitted infections at the state level. The two booklets include: "The Truth About Gonorrhea". Springfield, Illinois: Illinois Department of Public Health, c.1935. Single vol. (5.75" by 3.5"), pp. 8, original self wrps. "The Truth About Syphilis". Springfield, Illinois: Illinois Department of Public Health, c.1935. Single vol. (5.75" by 3.5"), pp. 8, original self wrps. The Illinois Department of Public Health published free pamphlets on all aspects of public health ranging from sex education in the home to preventing the spread of infections and diseases.
