Very good.
Description
Columbia, Mo, 1935. Very good.. [10] leaves, illustrated with thirty-one mounted photographs. Contemporary black cloth photograph album, string tied. Minor wear to edges. Some photographs missing. A nice album. A nicely-captioned vernacular photograph album assembled by Cassie Johnson of Columbia, Missouri. Johnson and a few friends have signed the front cover of the album, which is also captioned with "Columbia Mo" and "June 4, 1935." The photographs are also captioned in the same white ink and feature four photographs of young Cassie, along with numerous shots of her family members and friends, all of whom are identified by name. The portraits include two of Mary Jane Johnson, who is another of Cassie's friends who signed the cover of the album. One of the more interesting photographs features a woman named Barbara Johnson posed in her Sunday best but holding a long rifle. An interesting collection of original photos - the type of photographic record that unfortunately does not usually survive - featuring a young African American woman and her friends and family in rural Jim Crow Missouri.

Description
Lindsborg, KS: Bethany College, 1910. A 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" card with an image from a photograph of young women graduates in a field of daisies gathering the ephemeral flowers. The reverse has a stylized, art nouveau influenced daisy at left. The narrative describes the Bethany Campus as one of the beauty spots in "Little Lindsborg" the Park City of the Smoky Valley. It describes the flowers, the jewels of Nature, appearing in their glory during Commencement time, that period of commingled joy and regret for the parting which can be known only by college students, and do no wither away until the last lingering ones have left their Alma Mater..."This picture of the daisies has evidently touched a responsive chord in the memories of old Bethany students, for ten thousand have been called for and still more are demanded." Bethany College was established by Swedish Lutheran immigrants in 1881. A liberal arts college.
