Description
The Bronte Press, 2006. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. No. 30 of 35, miniature book, [30] pp., signed by Suzanne Smith Pruchnicki. Ballet experienced serious development as an art form in late nineteenth and early twentieth century Russia, and art critic and ballet patron Serge Diaghilev (1872-1929) had a defining influence on the culture and forms of the dance; he created the Ballet Russes, a ballet dance company from which many notable and talented dancers and choreographers arose. "Ballet After Diaghilev, II" is a collection of portraits of dancers on the scene after Diaghilev, such as Alexander Grant, Mia Slavenska, and Tamara Toumanova, and pairs illustrations with a brief written biography of each dancer. All the illustrations are coloured by hand by Suzanne Smith Pruchnicki (b. 1929), making this book a colourful and intimate look at some of the finest dancers of ballet. ___DESCRIPTION: Full marbled paper, white paper spine label with title in black, title page with hand-coloured illustration of stage curtains in purple and orange, illustrations of ballet dancers with hand-colouring by Suzanne Pruchnicki throughout; miniature book (3" by 2.5"), 30 unnumbered pages, one of 35 copies, this number 30, signed by Suzanne Smith Pruchnicki on the colophon. ___CONDITION: A fine copy; the covers clean, the corners straight and unrubbed, the binding tight with solid hinges, the interior clean and bright, and free of prior owner markings; clean, crisp, as new. ___POSTAGE:  International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.
