Description
Skies America Publishing Company, 2003. Paperback. Good +. Paperback. 11 1/2" X 9". 47pp. Mild rubbing, creasing, and shelf wear to covers, corners, and edges of paper wraps. Pages are clean and unmarked. Binding is sound. A solid copy of this account of symphonic conductor, James DuPreist (1936-2013). James DePreist was an influential American conductor and composer. He came from a musical family, with his aunt being the renowned contralto Marian Anderson. He initially studied trombone and composition, but a diagnosis of polio at the age of 23 forced him to abandon his aspirations as a performer. Instead, he turned his focus to conducting. DePreist's talent and passion for conducting quickly gained recognition, and he made his professional debut in 1962 with the National Symphony Orchestra. He went on to hold various prestigious positions, including being the associate conductor of the New York Philharmonic and the director of conducting and orchestral studies at the Juilliard School. He also served as the music director of several orchestras, including the Oregon Symphony and the Monte Carlo Philharmonic.
