New York: Simon and Schuster, 1957. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. First edition. Small quarto: 308 pp. Inscribed and Signed by the author in neat ink on the front pastedown: "For Eleanor and Peter, With love, Lettie, January 17, 1957." Very good with some soiling and sunning to the extremities, in a good dustwrapper with some light foxing and scattered stains to the inside and outer panels, and a few small tears at the edges. Peter Taylor was one of America's best short story writers, and winner of the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the 1985 PEN/Faulkner Award.

Copyright 1902. 12mo; 377pp, [6]pp publisher's ads; gray cloth over board, lettering in black on front, illustration of a girl on the front dressed in a red cape and muff trimmed in fur, and a long black skirt; black lettering on spine; ownership in neat ink dated "1906" on ffep; fp with tissue guard and an additional 6 b&w illustrated plates; publisher's glassine dust jacket; light damp staining on bottom corner through much of the book, no bad odors; very good. Later printing of this attractively bound book. A story for older girls overlaid with a religious theme.
