Number 112 of 250 signed by the artist. Smith is an author and illustrator who is best known for her "Jennifer" series of books, beginning with Jennifer's wish published in 1949. She is also the mother of Sharon Kane, an author and illustrator of children's books. Each image is very detailed and brings to life the personality of the particular character. The most striking thing about this work is the size of the etchings, a very difficult medium, and generally done on a very small scale.

London: Printed for the author, 1802. SECOND EDITION. Illustrated with 49 folding copperplates. Contemporary calf, worn and rubbed; scattered browning, spotting and offsetting from plates, some waterstains. From the library of Arnold Thackray with his bookplate on the paste-down of each volume. Second edition, first published in 1799. Walker (1731-1821) was an inventor and celebrated lecturer of natural philosophy. He traveled throughout England, Scotland and Ireland lecturing on numerous scientific subjects, including all the latest developments and discoveries in mechanical constructions and the materials used. He was encouraged by Priestley to set up a series of lectures in London which were quite successful. Among the topics included in the lectures were light and planetary distances, particles of matter, chemistry, atmosphere, hydraulics, electricity, optics, and Newtonian doctrines on astronomy. He is credited with various mechanical inventions. “Among others he devised engines for raising water, carriages to go by wind and steam, a road mill, a machine for watering land, and a dibbling plough” (DNB, XX, p. 499).

The copy listed in OCLC is bound with Laudatio funebris Elisabethae Farnesiae, and El Caracter de la Augustissima Isabel Farnessio... OCLC lists only the National Gallery and Indiana in the U.S.

Detroit, 1926. small folded 4-page leaflet. 14cm. Issued to promote membership in this VFW Post whose membership was restricted to veterans of the Archangel area who had served in the North Russian Expeditionary Forces with the 339th Infantry, 337th Hospital or 310th Enginers during the Siberian Intervention. The first page makes the invitation and spells out the membership requirements. The middle two pages contain a poem (by "J. R. M.) honoring their shared experience and urging memberwhip. The final page completes the pitch and is signed in type by Thomas Battles as Post Commnder. Battle was the 7th to serve as Post Commander of Polar Bear Post No. 426 suggesting that this little brochure was issued was issued around 1926.
