Alphabet tab index for accounts located in front. 261 numbered pages follows. 142 pages including the alphabet index used in the ledger. Some of the used pages list only the account name. After page 125 the account book is unused. Ledger mainly consists of cash accounts. Unknown company or individual kept these book keeping records. 112 account names written in the front index. A sampling of account names include Merss Lathrop Cady & Burtis; Merss Dowie & Moise; Bewley Keese & Co.; Dr. F. A. Evans; Dr. P. A. Withite; W S Keese; E. M. Rucker; Dr. W H Nardin; Dr. E. M. Cater; Dr. S R Haynie; Crayton & Son; James A Hoyt; George Razer; Col Jessie Norris, John Wakefield; Capt Junkins; Robert Stinson; Judge Munroe; Dr. Millford, etc. Researching some of the account names suggests this ledger may have originated in Anderson, South Carolina. "Judge Munroe" listing was not found but the last name " James Munro" was found in an online record from Anderson. A record from the Anderson Intellingencer newspaper for 1871 lists Dr. A. P. Carter. Another account name associated with Anderson South Carolina is that of Colonel Jesse Ward Norris 1812-1899. A Heritage auction record from 2004 shows a rare 10 cent note printed by Bewley, Keese & Co., dated October 1865, and printed at Anderson Court House. Provenance unknown. Other account names researched online appear to be from Anderson but not totally verified. It appears some of the account names were misspelled.
