small quarto, 59 pages of manuscript entries, plus blanks, bound in full red Morocco, "Augusta A. Mills" tooled in gilt on front board, some minor wear and rubbing to edges and extremities, bookseller's label of Peter Burtsell, Stationer, New York, on front pastedown, else very good. The contributions in Augusta's album include poetry by both women and men, the contributions vary in length, some are quotations from other poems, some seem to be original contributions. Most are signed and some are dated. They include, amongst others: "By a Gentleman of 76 Years of age on a Rose in December, signed "J.H." "The Natural and Moral advantages of a cultivated imagination", signed William F. Hamilton, New York, June 1st, 1824 "I would not live always" – signed W.S.S. "Lines written on visiting the death bed of Miss E. B.M." unsigned. "Lines composed on witnessing the burial of the same young lady" - unsigned, in the same hand as the above. "Lord! After discussing a real estate transaction, Noble adds: "It is very hard times about these parts as I suppose it is else where, Some of the factories in this have stopped operations entirely others have been obliged to reduce the price they have been paying their hands so as to make it possible for them to keep running which if a few of these establishments should stop it would be the means of a great deal of suffering among the poor people especially at this season of the year. We are in good health at present but have pretty tight scrubbing to keep along with my small salary and keep clear of debt but am in hopes if we are blessed with health to come out clear of debt in the spring…"
