This Deluxe Edition, printed on Velin d'Arches, is presented loose in its original orange chemise with a lithographed manuscript title. It is accompanied by a suite of 12 lithographs of women's portraits on Japan paper, housed in a matching orange folder. Both are very well preserved in the original orange cloth clamshell box. This edition includes 28 full-page lithographs in brown, 27 initial letters, numerous ornamental drawings in blue that accompany Nau verses in French, 12 additional lithographs of women's portraits on Japan paper (exclusive to the first 50 copies), Complete of title page, justification, colophon, index of poems. Limited to 250 copies, this copy is number 19 of 50. Matisse conceived this portfolio as a tribute to his friend Nau, whom he met during a transformative journey to Martinique in the early 1900s. The island's vibrant spirit and natural beauty became a shared source of inspiration, reflected in both Nau's poetry and Matisse's imagery. A rare and deeply personal work, Poesies Antillaises stands as a testament to artistic friendship, travel, and the enduring dialogue between word and image. In very good condition. Purpose of this work is to make contributions toward the chronology of seals within the Old Babylonian period from 2000-1600 B.C. and to attempt a preliminary identification of the products of some of the local seal cutters. Born in the Bolivian Andes, the author Primo Castrillo emigrated to the United States in the 1920s where he made a career as a New York City architect. Nevertheless, he never ceased to write poetry, publishing numerous Spanish-language collections over the course of nearly four decades, this his fifth.

Colorado Springs, June-July 1943. 32cm. High quality coated paper for the covers, with the internal printed pages on uncoated paper. 8pp. per issue. A little soiling and wear to corners and extremities, otherwise very good, clean examples. Textbook examples of the contrast between military newsletters and bulletins printed in country with official oversight and resources, and the more ad hoc productions from the various theatres of operations, on board ship etc. Wingspread is very clearly a piece of professional propaganda journalism, with a curated blend of local and wider news and headlines, syndicated (and somewhat unpleasant) cartoons from Sam Nash, one of the more popular wartime 'forces' cartoonists, sports, letters and chapel information on the rear page, and a suite of pages on uncoated paper laid in to the centre. The lack of staples or a binding method was probably not only less work intensive, but also allowed for the quick substitution of new stories or information should the situation change. The June 17th issue contains a story about the enforced registration of personally owned cameras, and a full page story on the importance of parachute maintenance. The July 15th issue leads with the fact that so many US airmen stationed in the UK are getting into bicycle accidents that it is becoming a genuine problem, and devotes a couple of inches on page 3 to the correct way to combat the effectiveness of a new Japanese explosive device. In keeping with the manner of printing and distribution, Wingspread is one of the few such publictions with a visible presence in institutions, with 5 or so locations having at least some holdings.

Description
Sheffield, England, 1875. Unbound. Very good. This illustrated partially-printed invoice on thin paper measures approximately 10" x 15.5" unfolded. It was prepared by William Jessop & Sons, Steel Manufactures of Sheffield, England for crucible steel sold to J. C. Hand & Company in Philadelphia. The document is dated February 7, 1875. It is annotated in black and red ink in a hand different from the drafter. A partially-printed two-page import certificate measuring about 5.5" x 9" is attached. It is signed by C. B. Webster, the United States Consul at Sheffield. This certificate bears a red wax/paper seal attached to a short green cord. Both documents are attached to a plain green trifold file cover sheet that reads in part: "Mch 15 75 / J C Hand & Co / Str 'Kennelworth' / from Lpool. . .." In nice shape with a little wear. There is an old tape repair to the reverse of the green cover. The invoice billhead contains three illustrations: One shows a factory titled "Park|Works / Sheffield" A second show a factory titled "Soho Mills / Sheffield" The third which is larger than the other two shows a great complex of factories sitting astride a waterway and is titled "Brightside / Works / Sheffield" Additionally. the billhead notes that the company has offices in Manchester and Paris, and that Jessop Depots were located in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Rhode Island. . Thomas and William Jessop began their steel business with other family members in 1830 just as the market for crucible steel in the United States began to increase. The family moved its business to a location in Sheffield's Brightside area that included the site of a water works, and eventually encompassed 30 acres. Sheffield steel was highly regarded, especially by industries that required a high quality, especially pure, and exceptionally strong product. It dominated the US market until after the American Civil War when the combination of Great Lakes iron ore, cheap water transportation, and a seemingly limitless supply of Pennsylvania coal, iron caused the American steel industry to explode. Between 1875 and 1900, American steel production increased from one million to more than 10 million tons, and by 1910, the United States produced nearly 25 million tons each year, far more than any other country in the world.
