Title page continues :"Adiecta Svnt Insvper Perelegantia ac docta Epimythia seu affabulationes, in quibus Emblematum amplitudo & quae in ijs dubia vel obscura sunt, perspicue` declarantur." [8], 209, [1] leaves, numerous allegorical illustrations in the text. 6" x 4". Text in Latin. Very Good in possibly later decorative paper covered boards with leather label in gilt, front joint opening yet holding nicely, small rubs at corners, moderate toning throughout, two blank rear end pages with early pencil notations that appear to be in German, pps. 152-53 with right margins trimmed and with early paper repairs not affecting text or emblems. Additionally at verso of pps. 78, 84, and 116 manuscript ink verses in Latin, dated 1600, that appear to be signed Sigfried Schiekh and Johannes Pusaer, and one of which seems to be a quote by Philip Melanchthon. The Frankfurt 1567 edition was printed with many blank versos to allow for the use as an album amicorum. Alciato's work which is recognised as "the first printed emblem book and the most frequently printed (over 100 editions in all, published in Germany, France, the Spanish Netherlands and Italy before the 1620s). This edition one of two produced by Sigismund Feyerabend in the same year of 1567. The bilingual edition including Held's translation (dated 1566 on the title page, but 1567 in the colophon) and this Latin-only edition with short commentaries." (Alciato at Glasgow, Glasgow University website) It is one of the few works influential throughout Europe, in countries both of the Reformation and of the Counter-Reformation. SCARCE, no other copies of this Latin-only edition in current commerce, OCLC appears to show 5 copies held in institutions worldwide. (= Green 77) (Alciato's Emblems and the Album Amicorum: A Brief Note on Examples in London, Moscow, and Oxford by William Barker[December 2002] ).

Description
MIKE NICHOLS. Four Signed Theater Documents related to the early production of the Broadway musical, "The Apple Tree," directed by Nichols. The play won the 1967 Tony Award for best musical and NIchols won the Tony for best directing of a musical. Our four documents use the play's original working title, "Come Back! Go Away! I Love You!". The documents each dated May 24, 1966, establish working arrangements between Nichols, Icarus Productions and the Stuart Company, a producer. The first document, "Re: Bock-Harnick Musical," is an agreement between the two producers to engage Nichols' services "as director" and as "an author" of the musical play. Jerry Boch and Michael Harnick wrote the music and lyrics to the musical and both won Tony's for best original score. NIchols signature, "Mike NIchols" appears as the second signature at the lower left of the page. The second document is signed by Nichols alone and states, "I have read the foregoing agreement [sic]...and that I agree to be personally bound by...said agreement...." Signed above his typed name. The third document in the form of a typed letter to Nichols from Stuart Ostrow, head of the Stuart Company, refers to an amendment regarding payment to Nichols as author of the play in the event of a disagreement with the Dramatists Guild. This document is signed by Nichols in the lower left corner above his typed name. The fourth document is a "right of refusal" offered by Icarus Productions to Nichols and Stuart Company should there be an offer to sell or transfer rights to the play. Nichols signature above his typed name is the second signature on the right. The name of the play shown on our documents changed to " The Apple Tree" and was a trilogy of one act musicals about love and temptation. The play ran for 463 performances and was revived for Broadway for a three month run between December 2006 and March 2007.

(Santa Monica, Ca: Indochina Peace Campaign, 1975. Softcover. Near Fine. Anti-Vietnam pamphlet. [11] pp. Stapled at the top corner. Faint creases from being folded, a bit of light toning at edges, about near fine. A letter from nine protesters (David Nesmith, David Harris, Jack Nicholl, Ann Cohen, Paul Shannon, Margie Kolchin, Paul Ryder, Louise Bruyn, and Al Hurwitz) informing friends that they are enroute to Saigon to demonstrate at the US Embassy to spread the message "No More War, No More Lies," and to let the Vietnamese know that there are Americans who oppose the war. Attached to the letter is an Indochina Peace Campaign press release reporting on the demonstration. The report states that on January 24, 1975 the group protested for six and a half hours before agreeing with Immigration officials that they could return the following day if they went back to their hotel. After returning to their hotel armed guards swarmed the lobby and deported the group to Bangkok, Thailand, saying that they violated Saigon law. Also attached are biographies of the demonstrators and the leaflet they distributed at the Embassy.
