Description
Milano: Nella Stamperia del Mazzucchelli, successore Malatesta, 1761. 8vo.  200 x 125 mm., [7 ½ x 5 inches].  18 [2] pp. Modern blue paper wrappers. First and only edition.  Rare poem in praise of milk’s wholesomeness, a natural food that “purifies the blood, makes clear the mind”.  The author challenges physicians who question its benefits and condemn its use as an important food element.  “Milk, according to Mr. Cerretesi, is the most suitable food for the human body” (Journal encyclopèdique).  Lamy adds, “The healthiness of milk is praised, and the ignorance of those Doctors who condemn a food so suitable for our bodies, are reproached.”  ICCU (Italian Union Catalogue) cites 2 copies in Italy.  USTC (Union Short Title Catalogue) cites one copy in Leipzig and OCLC does not cite this title. Journal encyclopèdique, VIII, part 2.  Lami, Annales Typographici, p. 160, no. 38.  (1238). For biographical information on Cerretesi, see Maria Augusta Timpanaro Morelli’s article in Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani, V, 23.   .

Description
1929 6 ½" x 8 ½" Type 1 sepia toned photo. Original photo of a smiling Jimmie Foxx holding a bat, with teammate (possibly Hall of Famer Eddie Collins) standing in background, and blue caption paper affixed to verso of photo. Near fine photo, with a light creasing to bottom edge, and light wear to corners. Overall, an excellent photo of an all-time baseball great. Jimmie Foxx, nicknamed "The Beast," was one of the greatest hitters in baseball history. He hit 30 or more home runs for 12 consecutive seasons and was the second player to join the 500 home run club after Babe Ruth. He also earned AL MVP honors three times (1932, 1933, 1938). In 1929 - the year that this photo was taken - Foxx led the Philadelphia Athletics to the first of back-to-back World Series titles (1929, 1930). Sadly, Foxx didn't quite attain the heights that he might have in his career, as he suffered from injuries and alcoholism. Nevertheless, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1951, and in 1999, The Sporting News ranked him as the 15th greatest player of all time. . Photograph.
