Description
[Washington, D.C.]: U.S. Government Printing Office, 1936. 8pp. Original printed self wrappers, 8 x 5 inches, printed as a ten-panel, fold-out booklet. Moderate staining and soiling, minor edge wear, short closed tear to bottom edge throughout. Good plus. A scarce pamphlet published to educate the attendees of the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition on African-American life. The work was compiled by Charles E. Hall, touted here as a "Specialist" in "Negro Statistics" on behalf of the U.S Department of Commerce. The publication features demographic data regarding the African-American population in Texas, with detailed statistics on population (with a table of census data back to 1850), birth rates, "marital condition," family size, home ownership, illiteracy, school attendance, occupations, prison populations, religion, agricultural employment ("Texas Colored Farmers"), retail store ownership, "Negro Market Areas," and "Negro Religious Bodies." The last page presents a complete list of the African American population in 1930 by county, and the penultimate page prints an advertisement for a new publication on "Negro Progress" titled Negroes in the United States 1920-1932. According to his introduction, Hall compiled the work to highlight the contributions of African Americans, who are now "celebrating, with other citizens, the Centennial of their native or adopted State." The present pamphlet appears to be one of three works on African-American life in Texas specially produced for the 1936 Centennial Exposition, along with W.E.B. Du Bois's What the Negro Has Done for the United States and Texas and the Commerce Department's A Selected List of Books By and About the Negro.

Description
America, 1956. Hardcover. Near Fine. Cloth-covered boards, backed in brown morocco; oblong 4to (340x265mm); approx. pp. 120, interleaved tissue and laid paper with untrimmed edges; composed of pen and ink drawings, woodblock cuts, and calligraphic text, translating "The Songs of Songs" from Hebrew into English. A unique artist's book by an American woman, impressively carried out. Some scuffing along spine, else fine. With colophon statement, "This book was transcribed, illustrated, and bound by Beverly Wechsler, September 1955-May 1956; bound in half leather and ornamental brocade cloth-covered boards, gray endpapers, edges uncut (losses to leather backing, corners bumped); two pressed botanical specimens tucked inside back board; 10 3/8 x 13 ¼ in. The Cooper Union alumni records make mention of her graduating in 1956. One wonders whether this book, created during the period of an average school term (September to May), was a senior thesis project.

Description
Santiago de Chile: Ediciones Mandrágora, 2012. recipes, ind., endpapers, pict. wrps. OCLC 827043982. (La edición original de libro fue impresa en 1851 por la Imprenta de La República en Santiago de Chile -- Colofon). Editorial Mandrágora rescued in facsimile editions the 3 first cooking books that were printed in Chile (in 1851, 1865 and 1872) considered bibliographical treasures of Chilean gastronomy. Regarding this first small format cookbook, Esteban Cabezas comments in his foreword. "This is not a book with recipes for today (at least not all). There are flavors that would provoke speeches even in the more experimental of gourmets (such as milk sauces). There are also other proteins, such as capons and pigeons. And a much more leisurely life, for preparing these dishes, and later consume them as well as enjoy them." (Our translation) --P. 6.
