Description
New York City: Published by Richard K. Fox, 1911 Illustrated with black and white photos. First edition. Rebound in custom tan cloth with titles in black to spine, with publisher's red wrappers bound in, printed in white with photo of a baseball player to front wrapper. Very good, with light offsetting to margins of endpapers, some toning and creasing to wrappers, a few chips to edges of wrappers, and small tears to edges of pp. 141-144. Overall, a great, internally clean copy of a scarce title. John McGraw was a star player and an all-time great manager from the dead-ball era. He helped the Baltimore Orioles win a pennant as a player-manager in the late 1890s, and then became manager for the New York Giants for almost thirty years (1902 - 1932), during which time he led the team to 10 pennant wins and three World Series titles (1905, 1921, 1922). As both a player and a manager McGraw was known for his aggressive style and willingness to bend the rules in the pursuit of winning (one of McGraw's coaches famously said that he "eats gunpowder for breakfast and washes it down with warm blood"). McGraw holds records for most pennant wins as a manager (10, tied with Casey Stengel) and most seasons managed (31). He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937, which was the second induction class in the sport's history. This baseball manual features McGraw's insights on how to play and excel at the various positions in baseball, and the official rules and team schedules for the year in which it was published. . First Edition. Original Wraps. Very Good.

About Fine
Description
[Los Angeles]: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, [1940]. Vintage original 10 x 13" (25 x 32 cm.) black-and-white double weight glossy silver gelatin photo. Soiling on verso edge right and bottom, about fine. Ann Rutherford poses in a suit designed by Dolly Tree. Tree designed many of the MGM lady stars' wardrobes for contemporary stories. This one, about a young newlywed, required Rutherford to pose for styles to be used in newspaper and magazine fashion layouts. The printed blurb on verso refers to this suit as something a young woman must budget for when she plans to marry, this being a suit which will not "bulge her budget". Of course, few brides at the time could afford a custom-made couture suit by Dolly Tree. It appears that photographer László Willinger (his ink stamp on verso) posed Rutherford on location during the late-California afternoon.

Description
San Salvador: Reprocentro, una division de SIGMA, S.A., 1976. Comb-bound octavo (20.5 x 14 cm.), 131, [19] leaves. Index. Facing pages with same numbering. Text in Spanish and English facing. Final unpaginated leaves are lined blanks headed "Notas/Notes". A similarly titled work was issued by the same organization in 1969. It is unclear if this is an updated version of that, and thus a second edition, or if it is a new work offered by the same organization. An interesting expat community cookbook issued by an American Methodist church group operating in San Salvador, published just a few short years before the onset of El Salvador's Civil War, in 1979. The recipes - a mix of local and Anglo-American fare - are attributed and many are quite detailed. There is an interesting section at the front that examines local fruits and vegetables, and a very thorough index at the rear. The illustrated cover depicts a woman standing with her back to the reader, holding a basket of fruit on her head. Some light staining to edges of text block; small ink squiggle to final pages of notes. Near very good. [OCLC locates four copies of this 1976 publication].
