Their goal was to provide educational and medical help, to boost nationalism and morale, to help organize classes and workshops, and to act as liaisons to their compatriots with the Americans and Brits. The book, highlighting the lives of prominent Ukrainian women, was devoted to Olena Pchilka (1849 - 1930), pseudonym for Olha Petrivna Kosach - publisher, author, ethnographer, and civil activist, and the Staritski-Cherniakhivski sisters - Mariia, Oksana, and Liudmyla - famed authors and actresses.
