Sayers was an English crime writer and poet, best known for her mysteries, a series of novels, and short stories set between the First and Second World Wars that feature Lord Peter Wimsey, an English aristocrat and amateur sleuth. Born on June 13, 1893, in Oxford, England, Sayers was also a renowned playwright and translator, particularly noted for her translation of Dante's "Divine Comedy." She was a contemporary and acquaintance of writers such as C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien and was a member of the Inklings, an informal literary discussion group associated with the University of Oxford. Sayers' works are considered a standard in classic detective fiction, characterized by their well-crafted plotting and her use of classical themes. She passed away on December 17, 1957.
