Description
1756. LE BLON, Jacques-Christophe and Antoine GAUTIER DE MONTDORGE. L'Art d'Imprimer les Tableaux. Traité d'après les Ecrits, les Opérations & les Instructions verbales, de J.C. Le Blon. xi, vi, [2], [xiii]-xxv, [26]-180, [4] pp., illustrated with 1 hand coloured sepia mezzotint and 2 black and white folding plates. 8vo, 195 x 125 mm., bound in contemporary mottled calf. Paris: Chéz P.G. Le Mercier, Jean-Luc Nyon, Michel Lambert, 1756. Le Blon was the inventor of the three colour method of printing in mezzotint and this little book is considered a key work in the history of colour printing. Le Blon's colour theory formed the foundation for modern colour printing. The bilingual text of Coloritto is in French and English; followed by the French essay of explanation and justification. Includes the renowned folding plate of an artist's palette in sepia mezzotint hand coloured to show the range and relationship of different 'tinctures.' This is the second edition of Le Blon's landmark book Coloritto, but an extremely important book in its own right. Copies of the first edition of 1723 are so rare they are essentially unobtainable. While not as rare as the 1723 edition, this edition is also a quite rare book, Spine with some professional restoration, overall a nice, fresh copy. Franklin, Early Colour Printing 40. Bridson/Wakeman B80 (Coloritto and reprint) - Florian Rodari (editor), Anatomie de la couleur. Catalogue BNF: Jacob Christoph Le Blon, l'oeil trichrome par Florian Rodari pp. 52-78. - Goldsmiths'-Kress no. 09110.1. Otto M. Lilien, Jacob Christoph Le Blon 1667-1741. Inventor of three and four Colour Printing.

San Francisco: The Arion Press, 2000. Hardcover. New. 18 by 13 inches, 1,356 pages; composed on a Macintosh computer and cast by Monotype in Romulus type, in 16 point for the main text and 11 point for subsidiary material and explanatory notes, with larger sizes (24, 36, 72 point) for display, handset from foundry type; initial letters designed by Sumner Stone for photopolymer plates; printed by letterpress in two colors of ink, black for text, red for initial letters, on Somerset, a mouldmade paper of 100% cotton fiber. Weight, with box, is approximately 50 pounds. The Bible is bound as two volumes for ease of handling and advantages for display. The Bible is limited to an edition of 400 numbered copies for sale. Following in the tradition of Gutenberg and other fine printers over more than five centuries, Andrew Hoyem and the artisans at Arion Press have created an oversize, Folio Edition of the Holy Bible using traditional letterpress techniques and the finest materials and craftsmanship. The Arion Press Bible is the first large folio presentation of the contemporary translation and current scholarship of the New Revised Standard Version - and it is probably the last Bible to be printed by letterpress from metal type. This Bible is intended for liturgical use in church services as well as for the collections of individuals and libraries. The text is printed by letterpress on English mouldmade paper. Designed for ease of reading from a lectern, the text is set in Romulus, a type of graceful lines and clarity of character recognition. Each book of the Bible begins with a large red initial letter. This alphabet of roman capitals was created for the Arion Press by the noted type designer Sumner Stone, formerly director of digital design for Adobe. Note that this item is for the cloth-bound copies, and comes in its own black linen box. There is also a leather version available, please see our inventory no. First edition - a paperback original (quite a bit scarcer than the 2nd printing in plain black wrappers). Details investigations of mafia activity in Rochester, New York, the subsequent trials, and the debacle that followed. It is a story of perjured detectives, gang wars, organized crime, overthrown convictions, imprisoned law enforcement officers and prosecutors, faulty police work, and corrupt officials. "Vincent 'Jimmy the Hammer' Massaro was hit by the mob. His death generated conspiracy prosecutions against what was alleged to be the top echelon of the organization in Rochester, New York. The testimony of informers, including two of the alleged triggermen, and detectives who surveilled mob meetings where Massaro's fate was plotted produced convictions. But there had been no surveillances. Detectives admitted perjuring themselves. Alleged mobsters were released from prison. A bloody gang war erupted, and Federal Indictments were returned against Detectives and Prosecutors. A saga of fabricated evidence and corruption unprecedented in the war against organized crime.
