Description
1970. 17" x 11" offset. Fine. 17" x 11" offset. The infamous 1936 film Reefer Madness was funded by a church group and made in earnest as anti-marijuana propaganda depicting the extreme perils of drug abuse. In the 1972 the film was rediscovered and shown as satire to throngs of stoned audiences who found all of the messages comically absurd. Underground film maker Jack Smith wrote an appreciation for The Village Voice in which he stated that "it is a beautiful film, and everyone in the arts should see it." There are subsequently a lot of variant posters that were made in the '70s to promote midnight screenings of the film however this may well be the most racy of them all.

Description
Copenhagen: Forlagsbureauet i Kjøbenhavn, 1881. First edition. 23 cm; xlii, 356 pages, [24] tinted lithograph plates, numerous woodcut text illustrations, 3 color maps (2 folded). Text in Danish. Bound in original cloth stamped in gilt, silver, and black, with gold-and-silver lozenge of the global map on upper board; spine stamped in gilt with images of nautical and navigational instruments; lower board stamped in blind. Edges and joints worn thin, and spine faded in sunlight, but a very good copy. Original Danish edition of this account of the expedition of the "Vega" to trace a Northeast Passage through the Arctic (1878-1880) led by the Finnish-born Swedish explorer Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld (1832-1901). The "Vega" was the first ship to make the passage along the northern coasts of Europe and Asia. Starting from Karlskrona on 22 June 1878, the Vega doubled Cape Chelyuskin in the following August, and after being frozen in at the end of September near the Bering Strait, completed the voyage successfully in the following summer. Upon returning to Stockholm, Nordenskiöld was made a baron and a Commander in the Order of the North Star. Many geographical features in Greenland and off the coast of Siberia are named for him.
