Description
Lee and Shepard, 1891. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Full blue cloth with black & gilt lettering and decoration, blue clay-coated endpapers, illustrated with engravings throughout. Covers are clean & bright, top of spine is a little worn, one page gathering proud. Overall, an attractive copy. A fantastic concept: a bunch of 49ers who now live in New England decide (40 years later) to take a trip back to California. The trip would take over a month, and the book is a combination travelogue of these kind of rowdy guys, along with reminiscences of the Gold Rush days, including some documents of the time. Deserves to be in any collection of Californiana & Gold Rush history.
