Description
Los Angeles, 1987. Two original stiff blue paper play call sheets with Pat Riley's hand drawn directions in blue felt tip ink. These were collected in person from game 1 of the 3rd round of the 1986-1987 NBA playoffs (the Lakers beat the Seattle SuperSonics 92-87 at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, CA on May, 16 1987). With the sheets is a redeemed ticket from this specific game. While 'Showtime' Laker memorabilia is rather common, game used ephemera is not (especially something from the playoffs).

A bilingual map of the city of Shanghai, printed in Japanese and English, showing the heart of the city, bissected by the Whangpoo (Huangpu) River. Many wharves, streets and green spaces are identified in English, while many other features are in Japanese only, including the keys on the bottom right and marginal glosses on the left. An extensive "green zone" near the race track in the upper right seems to include a good deal of proposed development, with many roads consisting of broken lines. The map is populated with a wealth of detail.CONDITION: Good, old fold marks, a few small areas of repaired loss at folds, slight toning at folds, reinforced at some folds on verso.

Paris: (Maurice Darantiere), 1926. Small 4to. 8 7/8 x 6 1/2 inches. (64) pp. Half-title, 11 color pochoir head-pieces to 11 literary pieces with 8 smaller pochoir tail-pieces of flowers; text clean, unmarked. Plain stiff-wrappers with a fold-over jacket with a pochoir illustration of a bouquet of flowers, clear mylar jacket; binding square and tight, original jacket rubbed. Laid-in is Miss Tessie Jones' calling card with ms. note and dated Christmas 1926 and a 3-page ALS from Miss Jones on 2305 Park Avenue, Minneapolis letterhead. GIL123-009. Very Good. LIMITED EDITION of 100 numbered copies, this is number 14, printed in Dijon by H. P. Roche for Maurice Darantiere. A bagatelle is a short literary piece in light style, or literally, "a little thing without too much importance or value." This book consists of 11 pieces by Tessie Jones on a variety of topics. Tessie was the eldest child of Herschel V. Jones (1861-1928) who grew up on a farm, dropped out of high school, but became a newspaper publisher, though which means he became a wealthy man. Herschel Jones was an important American book and art collector who sold several important book collections, including Americana material. Tessie and her father gifted several important collections to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Minneapolis School of Art, and the JP Morgan Library. Included in this volume is a bagatelle "On Collecting," which discusses the frustrations of living with an obsessive collector such as her father, who routinely accumulated and dispersed important collections of books and art. Included with this copy of Bagatelles, is a calling card of Tessie Jones marked "To Edith Brooks," and dated Christmas 1926. Also included is an autograph letter (3 pages) from Miss Jones to an un-named recipient (but likely Edith Brooks?). In it, Miss Jones gossips about family, residences, and writes a paragraph about the production of Bagatelles, explaining why the book was not available for distribution at Christmas 1926, for which the book was intended to be sent to friends. Robert Bonfils (1886-1971) was a French illustrator, painter and designer. Bonfils was born in Paris and studied at the École Germain Pilon and the École National Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, and the École des Beaux Arts. He showed his works regularly at many Paris venues beginning in 1909 and was one of the organizers of the 1925 International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts in Paris. He was created Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1926. 8 copies Worldcat.

New York: G.P. Putman's Sons, 1942. First edition. SIGNED AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF EMINENT JOHNS HOPKINS PROFESSOR, SUCCESSOR TO OSLER. 9 1/4 inches tall hardcover, black cloth binding, gilt title to spine, ink signature of author to front free endpaper, frontispiece portrait of author with his signature, small handstamp of Faculty Medical and Chirurgical Library, Baltimore, bottom verso of title page, dedication to the memory of Sir William Osler, William H. Welch, and Franklin P. Mall, i-ix, 350 pp, 6 photographic plates. Very good in very good dust jacket with light edgewear, in protective mylar sleeve. LEWELLYS FRANKLIN BARKER (1867 - 1943) received his Bachelor of Medicine degree in 1890 from the University of Toronto Medical School. After interning at Toronto General Hospital, he came to Johns Hopkins in 1892 to join the staff of William Osler's Clinic. He later held a fellowship and served a residency in pathology. In 1897, he was appointed associate professor of anatomy. While at Johns Hopkins, Barker made several trips abroad to further his studies. He studied in Germany in Karl Ludwig's physiological laboratory and toured the South Pacific, Asia, and India to study hospital diseases. In 1900, Barker was appointed professor and chair of anatomy at the University of Chicago. Shortly after arriving in Chicago, he was appointed to the 1901 Federal Commission on Plague in San Francisco. In 1905, Barker was appointed director of medicine and physician-in-chief at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, succeeding William Osler. "Under Dr. Osler the opportunities for careful observation were never better and the importance of careful study of the more superficial aspects of disease never more insisted upon. Dr. Barker on the other hand held that a primary affiliation of the university department of medicine should be the encouragement of research and accordingly that the professor of medicine should be freed from the burdens of a private practice and allowed to devote his time to his own investigations and those of his staff."--Bordley & Harvey Two Centuries of American Medicine 1976

Description
Pamphlet, disbound and removed 81 pp. Some foxing and a few bends here and there, and last page is split a little at the hinge. Still, in good shape overall. This Bill was presented to the 19th Congress, second session [H.R. 332] on January 2, 1827. Bankruptcy was a big deal in this period, and was an issue Congress had to invest a good deal of time to settle. In fact, a similar Bill was proposed more than twenty-five years earlier, and it appears that this Bill may have had to be introduced because of the failure of the previous legislation.
