Aristotle (384-322 B.C.E.) was born in Stagira in northeastern Greece. He ranks among the greatest philosophers of all time. His works defined centuries of philosophy from Late Antiquity through the Renaissance, and are still considered relevant today. A remarkable researcher and writer, Aristotle produced nearly two-hundred treatises, from which about thirty-one survive. His extant writings cover an extensive range of disciplines including logic, metaphysics and philosophy of mind, ethics, political theory, and aesthetics and rhetoric. In addition, Aristotle's works explore non-philosophical realms as well, such as empirical biology, where he provided detailed animal and plant observation and description. A scholarly work in a striking vellum binding.
