Description
China, 1930. Hardcover. Near Fine. A bound portfolio of 20 remarkable silkscreened plates of ceiling designs from the Dunhuang Caves in Gansu Province, China. Also known as "The Mogao Caves" (or the "Thousand Buddha Grottoes"), these sacred caves are essentially shrines of Buddhist art temples and form a system of 492 temples southeast of the center of Dunhuang, which is "an oasis strategically located at a religious and cultural crossroads on the Silk Road, in Gansu Province". The portfolio has held up very nicely: clean and tight and Near Fine in its ribbon-tied, decorative boards. And all 20 plates are in pristine condition, with no wear or markings of any kind. The text in Chinese, the lavish plates along each verso.

Very good plus in very good jacket.
Description
New Haven: Yale University Press, 1935. Very good plus in very good jacket.. Second printing of Agee's debut collection of poetry. Claimed as a peculiarly brilliant critic, screenwriter, journalist, and novelist according to the interests and allegiances of his readership, Agee has also been hailed in turn as a poet above all - "Basically, he was a poet" (David McDowell). The nature and quality of Agee's poetry, left undefined and nearly unmentioned in MacLeish's foreword, was described after his death by his friend and contemporary Robert Fitzgerald: "A sense of the breathing community immersed in mystery, exposed to a range of experience from what can only be called the divine to what can only be called the diabolical, most intelligent in awe and most needful of mercy - a religious sense of life, in short - moved James Agee in his best work." 9.25'' x 5.75''. Original green cloth. In original unclipped ($2.00) printed green dust jacket. 59, [3] pages. Jacket with some edgewear and soil, a few light abrasions to flaps, short closed tear repaired with tape to verso. Offsetting lines to endpapers, leaves somewhat toned. Sound.

Description
New York: Mark Hall Amitin, 1979. Vintage poster for Albee Directs Albee, a forty week international tour of eight Albee one act plays, directed by the playwright. It started in 1978 and was presented by Mark Hall Amitin, the founder of World of Culture. Plays included "The Zoo Story" (1958), "Fam and Yam" (1959), "The Sandbox" (1959), "The American Dream" (1960), "Box and Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse Tung" (1968), "Listening" (1975), and "Counting the Ways" (1976). Though primarily known for "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" (1962), the winner of the Best Play Tony Award and source material for Mike Nichols' landmark film starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, Edward Albee has produced numerous varied works since his career began with "The Zoo Story" (1958), a play that opened alongside and drew comparisons to Samuel Beckett. The tour was produced and organized by Mark Hall Amitin, a prominent figure in the New York theatre world who worked closely with The Living Theatre and other companies. The production brought Albee's well-loved but seldom-seen smaller works to audiences across the United States, Japan, and South Korea. 15 x 18.5 inches, rolled. Near Fine.
