He wrote on Torre Del Lago letterhead in Italian: Dearest Magante, I returned from New York 20 days ago and after some rest and welcome boredom I am finally writing to you. I will send you the 4 works as soon as I reach Milan, that is, at the end of the month. I never received the Indian macca you promised me. Would you also be so kind as to let me know how much I owe you for the pelts/fur you sent me? You can find me at this address: Milan, via Verdi 4. Now I'd need a favor. Mr Paqui, the painter living in Milan who you met him at my place at the Brensa wants to have a little exhibition of his works, landscape impressions. [N.p., 1900. About very good.. Two silver gelatin photographs, each 4.25 x 6.5 inches, on mounts measuring 8 x 9.75 inches. Moderate foxing to mounts, some surface wear, spotting, and silvering to images. A wonderful pair of original photographs capturing two different groups of Native Americans in traditional dress. The first image features nine Native Americans, including men, women, and one young girl. The second captures seven men and women. All of the subjects in each picture stare directly into the camera. The images are not captioned in the negative by the photographer, but the subjects are clearly Plains Indians or perhaps from the southwest, given their attire. The images offer an excellent opportunity for further research to identify the subjects and their tribal affiliation. The two photographs do have the feel of picturing members of the same tribe.

Following tenth commandment, two pages of further commentary, and final page with content is a colophon, crediting those responsible for different aspects of the book, including some not mentioned in this description such as the typographers. Baldwin first began researching the Atlanta Child Murders of 1979-1981 on assignment from Walter Lowe, the first Black editor at PLAYBOY, where an earlier version of this essay was first published and won the magazine's Best Nonfiction award for 1981. Sensitive to his burden of responsibility to victims, survivors, and the truth, Baldwin rejected the creative license employed by Truman Capote and his many lesser true-criminal successors, explaining: "Tolstoy has every right to throw Anna Karenina under the train. [...] But the life of a living human being, no one writes it. You cannot deal with another human being as though he were a fictional creation."
