Description
Springville, UT: Anderson and Crandall (Photography Studio), 1893. Photograph. Near Fine. Large format albumen photograph [approximately 40 cm x 25 cm] in a nice period ornamental wooden frame. An attractive image with nice contrasts. This has not been examined outside of the frame. A photo collage depicting a view of the Salt Lake City Temple above a picture of Brigham Young. A small banner design with the text "Salvation for the Dead" is shown above the image of the temple. These images are situated above a book that reads "Book of Life. In Memory of Brigham Young [...]", and two other open books below that, all surrounded by a decorative border of flowers. A lovely design and production. Rare. George Edward Anderson (1860-1928) was born in Salt Lake City and lived in Springville, Utah. He was a devout Mormon who photographed and documented many of the prominent figures, scenes, and landmarks of Utah and LDS history. Anderson & Crandall was the short-lived business partnership between George Edward Anderson and Lucian D. Crandall in Springville, Utah, circa 1892-93.

Description
ELEANOR ROOSEVELT (1884-1962). The wife of FDR, Roosevelt was First Lady of the United States from 1933-1945, as well as a noted humanitarian throughout her life.TLS. 1pg. January 6, 1944. The White House. A typed letter signed Eleanor Roosevelt as First Lady, dated during World War Two. On White House letterhead, Roosevelt wrote to about the problem of providing relief to Greeks who were starving due to a war-related famine. Dear Mrs. Butler: I have your letter and a copy of Senate Resolution 100. Such a resolution would have no value. Everyone would like to be able to feed the people of Europe. The State Department and Governor Lehmans committee are doing everything they can. The pattern for Greece cannot be followed because Greece has nothing the Germans could take out. The difficulties of transportation add greatly to the problem. It is heartbreking [sic] to think of starving children and I know every effort is being made to work out some plan which will not prolong the war. Very sincerely yours, Eleanor Roosevelt. Lehman refers to former Governor of New York Herbert Lehman, who was working with the State Department and United Nations on such relief efforts. The letter is in very good condition, with some folds.

Description
PERCY AVERY ROCKEFELLER (1878-1934). Rockefeller was a board director and businessman, best known for founding the Owenoke Corporation. He is the nephew of Standard Oil co-founder John D. Rockefeller.TLS. 1 pg. 8 x 10. October 15, 1929. New York. A typed letter signed P A Rockefeller to Mr. Lee Olwell: My dear Lee, As requested by you on the phone, I am enclosing you my check for $50,000. on account of the Dietrich purchase at Millbrook. Will you, at your convenience, kindly acknowledge receipt. This letter documents one of the numerous transactions made by Percy Rockefeller due to his familial wealth and his profitable roles as a board director for numerous corporations from mining and steel ventures to Western Union. Lee Olwell was then serving as vice president of the National City Bank, whose board Rockefeller sat on, and in charge of advertising and public relations. He also directed real estate and building activities of the bank throughout the world. While that bank managed to survive the Great Depression, which began just a few weeks after this letter was sent, it was a casualty of the Great Recession. Dietrich is likely a reference to Dietrich Inc., an American coachbuilder that existed between 1925 and 1936. The letter is in very good condition with two small stains at the top and some minor folds. It is a fascinating window into the financial normalcy that was occurring just weeks before the biggest meltdown in United States history.
