Description
Springfield, Massachusetts: The School for Christian Workers, 1891. Very good. Toned, letter folds, short tears.. Four (4) items related to The School for Christian Workers, a Springfield, Massachusetts school for preparing young men for professions as lay assistants, secretaries to pastors, Sunday school administrators, and Bible colporteurs. The school was founded in 1885 by the Rev. David Allen Reed, and provides insight into the career paths available to young men in this area at the time. The material consists of two (2) typewritten letters notifying school board members about upcoming meetings, dated 23 Oct. and 1 Dec., 1891. Each measures approx. 8" by 5.25", and are signed by the secretary in ink. The remaining two (2) items consist of a printed list of testimonials for the school (8.5" by 5.5"), and a printed promotional flyer for the school (9.5" by 6") with an illustration of the school's building and a description of course offerings. Both of these items can be roughly dated to the late 1880s.
