Oblong 8vos, ca. 110 x 150, original illustrated wrappers, in a chemise and slipcase by Devauchelle. Leipzig: Verlag Ernst Wunderlich, 1948. A splendid set of the four stunning books created by Lou Scheper-Berkenkamp, one of the most important women graduates of the Bauhaus. After studying at the Bauhaus with Feininger and Klee among others, she worked on various theatrical productions with Oskar Schlemmer. However, her most important legacy is these four stunning children's books, all of which are of great rarity. In the U.S., copies of the first are at Smith, Princeton and Penn State. No one has the second, and only Princeton has copies of the third and fourth.

Hurst and Blackett, 1855. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. Lt. Campbell Hardy was an officer of the Royal Artillery in New Brunswick. In this interesting peek into the 19th century New World, he documents his travels exploring moose territory in Canada. Description: 8vo. Vol I 304 pages. Vol II 299 pages + 1 page ads. Matching tan cloth covers with gilt titles and moose illustration on front covers, bright blue endpapers. Blue and tan illustrated frontispiece in both volumes. Condition of Vol I: Cloth on top of spine is bent and a little torn. Spine is cocked with the cloth wrinkled but the text block is tight and legible. Cover is slightly soiled but gilt is bright and intact. Minor foxing to some pages. Previous owners initials CK Nov. 1885 marked in fountain pen on first white page. Condition of Vol II: Spine is much better looking than first volume. Like the first volume, the cover is slightly soiled, the gilt is bright and intact, there is minor foxing to some pages, and the previous owners initials are marked CK Nov. 1885.

From the website of the recently resurrected blog and then print magazine: "The origins of Deviation Street go way way back to the evening of 6th June 1977 and a Rock Against Racism gig featuring The Adverts, Penetration, local band Harry Hack and The Big G and one other band from Manchester called Warsaw, who would later go under the name Joy Division which inspired 3 Bored teenagers to start a Fanzine. The name of the zine was Deviation Street a nod to a track by counter culture figure Mick Farren and his band The Deviants." Features interviews with mod band The Jam, female-fronted UK band Penetration, Generation X, New Yorkers Mink Deville and Richard Hell, and The Tubes as well as concert and record reviews.

Red topstain; fore-edge deckled. Dust jacket discolored with slight toning to the front and back flaps. Spine sunned. All margins, joins, and spine ends bumped, creased, and chipped. Minor tears on all margins and spine has loss to both ends. Verso toned on spine and shows minor water staining. Boards soiled with some discoloration from what appears to be water staining. Margins, corners, and spine ends bumped. Front pastedown has bookplate of former owner Arline De Haas. Both endsheets show toning and pages have foxing throughout. Discoloration in most gutters due to moisture but no mold. A Very Good copy in a Good or better dust jacket. The first novel of Edward Anderson, who only wrote two in his lifetime. He was awarded $1,000 for his entry of Hungry Men to Doubleday. This first edition copy was owned by Arline De Haas, the author of the photoplay of the first talking film The Jazz Singer.
