Description
Amsterdam: Ian Evertsen Clojpeburg, 1627. Later Edition. Hardcover (Quarter Leather). Good Condition. Rebound in contemporary paper covered boards with a spine made of old red leather, new endpapers. Title in facsimile on old paper, scattered browning, foxing, minor stains, some minor repairs with Japanese paper all mostly early on; generally a very good copy. (18), 676, (96), (26), (blank leaf), (4) pp, 24, (1) leaves. Notaker 405 & 406 (for the cook book) Wirsung's medical book was first published in 1568 and the cook book first added in 1593 - it contains around 300 recipes that are a terrific mix of medieval (a number of different blancmangers, fast recipes, sops and a fritter he calls a small-whore's-farts - thanks to James Prescott's online translation for that one) with some emerging Renaissance recipes for omelets, crepes, waffles and a proto-hollandaise sauce (likely the first appearance in a printed cookbook in the 1593 edition and predating the first French appearance in La Varenne's 1651 work). Size: Folio. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Cooking, Wine & Dining; Medicine & Health. Inventory No: CAT000716.

Description
Sidney: Angus and Robertson Ltd., 1944. First Edition. Very good. First edition; 9 3/4 x 7 1/4; pp. [6], 1-62, [4]; pictorial cloth over boards; a few small, slight worn spots to bottom edge; mild wear to tips of spine; illustrated with numerous photographs; very good condition. A scarce book with a striking cover art, it documented two years of the service of Asterperious - 319th Squadron of the 90th Bombardment Group, the latter known as the Jolly Rogers. One of four squadrons, the 319th was first organized at Key Field in Mississippi in April 1942. It flew out of bases in Australia and New Guinea until VJ Day and after that transported Allied prisoners from Okinawa to Manila, until November 1945, when it ceased operations. The mascot of the 319th - the "Asterperious," was the aboriginal cartoon figure of the cover art, holding a bomb. The members of the group defined the made-up word as a "superior attitude in an inferior environment," or, in other words - "confidence in a seriously mucked-up situation."

Description
(n.p.): Pisani Printing Company. Very Good+. [ca.1967]. Stapled wraps. [moderate wear at corners, a few horizontal stress lines adjacent to spine]. (B&W photographs, graphics) A remarkable piece of self-sycophancy, uncredited (except for some of the individual pieces, as noted) but pretty obviously issued with the full cooperation of Lewis himself. Dozens of photographs showcase Jerry "the man," "the comedian," "the clown," "the maestro," "the sportsman," "the director," "the man of many faces!", etc. -- Jerry behind the scenes, on stage, on television, on tour, with his family, and on and on. The interspersed text is equally fawning: the introduction by Bill Richmond tells us that we "are about to observe the life and times of a man whose interests include all things and ideas, whose compassion extends to every living soul, whose birthright is to entertain the world"; an admiring piece about Jerry's talents as a director, by L.A. Times film critic Kevin Thomas; a reprint of a NYT story by Hollis Alpert, about how much Lewis was adored in France. And of course, on the inside back cover is a pitch for donations to Lewis's longtime pet charity, the Muscular Dystrophy Association. There's publicity -- there's self-promotion -- and then there's this (which honestly, even if you admire a lot of Lewis's work -- as I do! -- kinda makes you a little nauseous). .
