Description
New York: Macfadden Publications, Inc., August 1951, Vol. 11, No. 2, 1951 First edition. Signed by Yogi Berra to front wrapper. Original wrappers with Yogi Berra portrait taken by Hy Peskin to front wrapper, Springmaid Fabrics advertisement to rear wrapper. Near fine copy with some wear and small closed tears to spine, previous owner's address tag to front wrapper, and a bit of toning to front wrapper. This edition of Sport Magazine features a photo of Yogi Berra on the cover and includes a special in-depth article on the player written by the magazine editor, Ed Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald would later co-author Berra's 1961 autobiography, Yogi: The Autobiography of a Baseball Player. The magazine article looks to change the narrative around Berra's intelligence, arguing that Berra "is far from the semi-illiterate some writers have made him out to be." Berra played eighteen of his nineteen professional seasons with the New York Yankees, winning the American League Most Valuable Player Award a record-tying three times and earning a spot on eighteen All-Star teams. Innumerable well-known sayings have been attributed to Berra, including "It ain't over til it's over" and "It's like deja vu all over again.". Signed. First Edition. Original Wraps. Fine/Dust Jacket Included.
