Description
France, 1890. Very good. Light dust soiling, heavy finger soiling to doll. A couple short tears. Neck break on doll with repairs.. A handmade 5.75" paper doll depicting a slim upper class blonde beauty, accompanied by outfits and accessories inspired by the famed House of Worth. The outfits were produced earlier, for two dolls not present here, and this is a nice example of a child making her own doll to suit the outfits she has (perhaps been handed down by a sibling). The doll's hair evokes the then-trendy "Gibson Girl" style, and she faces the left in profile. The outfits face both sides, and she appears to elegantly look over her shoulder in the right-facing outfits (though it is obvious she was not original to those particular outfits). Made from scrap paper with French text on the back, each hand cut with original pencil and water color artwork. In total, there are sixteen (16) outfits and twelve (12) accessories (including hats and a veil, furs and robes). Includes slits to slip accessories over the doll. There is evening wear, day wear, outerwear, and even a swimming costume and grand wedding dress with veil. The House of Worth was a Fresh fashion house known for haute couture founded by Charles Frederick Worth in 1858, and reaching peak popularity in.
