Description
Leipzig: Alexander Edelmann, 1880. 8vo. 44pp. Original printed wrappers, spine a bit chipped. 230 x 153 mm. Ownership inscription on front wrapper of "Fehling," most likely H.C. von Fehling (1812-85), professor in the Technical High School, Stuttgart, best known for his test for sugar in urine (G-M 680, "Fehling's solution," 1848), a test which opened the way for a definitive chemical study of diabetes mellitus. First Edition. Garrison-Morton 2329: ". . . Among [Cohnheim's] many valuable experiments, the greatest perhaps was his successful inoculation of tuberculosis in the anterior chamber of the rabbit's eye, 1877, an account of which is included in the above work. This proved that tuberculous material derived from different sources owed its infectiveness to the same contagious factor. . ." A significant association copy signed by the famous researcher H.C. von Fehling. .

First trade edition. 113pp. Feminist Gertrude Robinson-Smith's copy, with her attractive, early pictorial bookplate on front pastedown. Born in New York City in 1880, to a wealthy family, she worked for numerous causes, was President of the Vaccination Society, raised funds for refugees during World War I, had a summer home in the Berkshires, and helped found the first Berkshire Music Festival, in 1934, which eventually became Tanglewood. She died in 1963. This First American edition precedes the British, and is only preceded itself by a September 1903 off-print of 12 copies produced for copyright purposes. Wade 52

Description
(n.p.): (Marble Arch). (1979). Dialogue continuity script for Kanin's television screenplay based on C.D.B. Bryan's 1976 nonfiction book. Friendly Fire chronicles the radicalization of a patriotic Midwestern family after their son is killed by "friendly" (i.e., U.S.) fire, and they try to get the details from a balky government, seemingly more interested in protecting those responsible than in honoring the dead. An important book, and film, for depicting the tide of mainstream political opinion in the U.S. turning against the war effort in Vietnam. Claspbound photocopied sheets; first page creased, otherwise near fine. No Binding. Near Fine.

Description
Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Page & Company, 1919. First Edition. Octavo. 19cm. Publisher's brick red cloth titled and decorated in black to spine and front board. Dustjacket. 324pp. Minor bumping to spine ends, some light scuffing to corners and extremities, spotting to page edges, internally clean, two small closed tears to the margin of the dedication leaf and contents page, with the rear inner hinge cosmetically cracked; the dustjacket is clean and strong, a little faded with some light soiling, some marginal creasing, shallow chipping and a pale pink stain to the front panel. A very good, handsome copy. One of Harry Leon Wilson's "Red Gap" collections, replete with down-home wisdom, and folksy fortitude.
