Description
London, 1850. Very good. Upper left-hand corner tab damaged. Metal tarnished, with some dust soiling and wear to lace. Some chipping to extremities.. A unique and elaborate 8vo valentine made from several different components. First, there are two tiers of elaborate lace paper, the upper with silver gilding. They are attached together with paper hinges in each corner, resulting in a unique "3D" depth not present in other valentines. Second, there is an embossed and chromolithographed scrap in the middle reading "I fondly truly love thee" surrounded by wild flowers. Lastly, there is a hand-tatted scrap of real lace affixed to the lower panel. A thoughtful and elaborate creation. Measures approx. 4.75" by 3.5
