(xvi) 710pp. (vi) 14pp. Rebound in modern green buckram boards with gilt lettering on the spine. Marbled endpapers. This famed French siddur (Jewish prayer book) was originally created and compiled by chief Rabbi of Strasbourg, Arnaud Aron (1807-1890). It consists of a combination of tradition Jewish prayers for use throughout the year including weekdays, sabbath, festivals and holidays, with some original devotional works created by Aron himself. The work received editorial assistance from French-Jewish writer, educator and politician Jonas Ennery (1801-1863) and the first edition was originally published in 1848, in Strasbourg and Paris. Includes an approbation from French Jewish scholar and Rabbi Marchand Ennery (brother of Jonas). The final sections contain appendices, a section of prayers for married women, and a table of contents. Text throughout in French, with sporadic Hebrew. Binding with minor rubbing to corners. Interior with foxing to pages throughout. Book block tight. Binding in very good+, interior in good- condition overall. Hebrew title: אמרי לב *Quatrième édition.
