Description
London, Paris, New York: Raphael Tuck & Sons, 1894. Fine in very good box.. First edition of this charming paper doll set, complete with fashionable chromolithograph dresses and hats, in the scarce original box. DARLING EDITH is part of Raphael Tuck & Sons' "New Series of Dressing Dolls," something of the ancestor to modern Barbie-type dolls. Though EDITH'S friends HILDA and MURIEL were both unique in appearance, their different outfits could be mixed and matched, as they were all the same size. A lovely paper toy for fashion-forward children. 10'' x 6.25'' (box); 9'' x 3.5'' (doll). Original chromolithograph paper doll, complete with four dresses and four hats. In original embossed and gilt pictorial box. Box with various paper and tape repairs to edges, a few small spots of soil. One dress with fold-over tabs lacking. A vibrant survival.
