Paris: Adolphe Guyot, 1834 Bound in mid- to late- 19th century quarter brown calf with green marbled paper-covered boards, spine decorated, ruled, and lettered in gilt. Good or better, with some staining to spine, some shallow chipping to foot of spine, light rubbing to boards and edges, some library markings ("École St. Joseph" stamps to half-title and title page, sticker to half-title page, and a couple of stickers to binding), some marks in colored pencil to half-title page, light dampstaining to some pages at beginning of book, and light spotting to pages. Overall, a sturdy copy. Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, Count of Mirabeau (1749 - 1791), was a French politician and orator, and an important early figure in the French Revolution who supported constitutional monarchy. Victor Hugo published the essay, "Étude sur Mirabeau," as a preface to Mémoires de Mirabeau (1934). Hugo (1802 - 1885) was a French poet, novelist, and politician, whose works The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (1831) and Les Misérables (1862) are considered two of the greatest novels of the 19th century. . 1st Edition.
