Np. No binding. Fine. Set of 5 vintage original 8 x 10" (20 x 25 cm) black-and-white photos, overall fine. Quentin Crisp (born Denis Charles Pratt, 1908-1999) was an English raconteur, whose work in the public eye included a memoir of her life and various media appearances. Before becoming well known, she was an artist's model, hence the title of Crisp's most famous work, The Naked Civil Servant. She afterwards became a gay icon due to her flamboyant personality, fashion sense and wit. As Crisp became a kind of icon, she devoted much of her later years to various kinds of stage appearances. - Portrait of Crisp as she appears in An Evening with Quentin Crisp in New York, 1978, with printed text on verso; - A borderless portrait; - Crisp on a sofa with cat as she prepares the role of Benvolio in a 1990 film-in-concert adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, with text on verso; - Portrait of Crisp standing outside, probably in New York City, with sticker on back for his 1996 book Resident Alien. - Photo of Crisp with John Hurt, who portrayed Crisp in a film adaptation of Crisp's The Naked Civil Servant. Also included is a program for Crisp's An Evening with Quentin Crisp given in London at the Ambassador Theatre.

Original cloth with blind-stamped printer's device on front board, and red lettering on front cover and spine. Printer's device on title-page. A sample of American reactions to the Kishinev pogrom of 1903, where Jews were attacked and dozens killed by a Christian mob, fueled by anti-Semitic reports of the murder of a Christian child, while Czarist officials either did nothing or possibly encouraged the violence. This book also offers a fascinating window on the position of Jews in the United States, showing that Jews did advocate effectively on behalf Russian Jewry, many of whom were now emigrating to the United States in response to pogroms such as Kishinev. Some age wear to binding with spine slightly sunned. Also shows shelf wear. Interior binding starting. Endpapers aged toned. Overall in fair to good condition.
