Description
Paris: Chez Marcilly fils aîné, [1824]. 105 x 63 mm. (4 1/8 x 2 1/2"). 6 p.l., 48 pp., [12] leaves. Publisher's green paper boards with Neoclassical engraved decorations, gilt edges, IN THE VERY FRAGILE ORIGINAL MATCHING PULL-OFF CASE. Housed in a fine modern linen custom clamshell box, green morocco label on spine. Engraved title page with vignette, six engraved plates with original tissue guards, engraved cover and 12 engraved vignette headpieces for the ladies' appointment calendar at rear. From the Ellen K. Morris and Edward S. Levin Collection of Publishers' Bookbindings. A hint of soiling and chafing to boards and slipcase, isolated faint foxing to contents, but A VERY FINE SPECIMEN, WITH ALMOST NO SIGNS OF USE. This charming little almanac contains romantic poems and engravings of young lovers in addition to a calendar with saints' days and phases of the moon, as well as a section (unused) for making notes and jotting down appointments. Our copy is remarkably well preserved, down to the delicate paper pull-off case. It comes from the splendid collection of publisher's bindings assembled over three decades by Ellen K. Morris and Edward S. Levin, and exhibited at the Grolier Club in 2000. In a review of the sumptuous catalogue for the exhibition, written for the Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America, Andrea Krupp praises the "pristine condition" of this "glittering and opulent collection." ..

He also discusses his latest writing and some upcoming travel: My dear Mrs. Dixon, I have returned from the north a few days ago and I have just finished reading your charming little volume A Book of Fortune which you so kindly sent me. I must thank you ever so much for the pleasure its perusal has given me. I admire so much the sketches. They are lovely and so artistic. The book is a gem and I value the gift very much on account of the donor for whom I have the greatest regard and administration. I have been very busy all the winter and I am happy to say that Ivar the Viking is entirely out of my hands I think that Scribner intend to publish it in the autumn. When are you coming to New York? Will you be here on a visit in the Spring I am going to the Hot Springs Arkansas in two or three days and will not be back in New York before April. I am not how to thank you enough for your book. With kind regards to you and Mr. Dixon Believe me always Yours sincerely Paul Du Chaillu. Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc, 1982. Book Club (BCE/BOMC). Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 8x6x1. Book club edition, gutter code M51. Minor wear to corners, otherwise an excellent copy. Binding tight and square, pages clean, bright, and unmarked. 1982 Hard Cover. xiv, 557 pp. Includes 31 stories. "The Complete Robot is the definitive anthology of Asimov's stunning visions of a robotic future... In these stories, Isaac Asimov creates the Three Laws of Robotics and ushers in the Robot Age: when Earth is ruled by master-machines and when robots are more human than mankind. As well as TN-3 (Tony), AL-76 and other robots, the stories feature the staff of U.S. Robots and Mechanical Men Inc., and in particular the chief robot-psychologist, the steely Dr Susan Calvin who is in many ways more robot-like than her subjects. The Complete Robot is the ultimate collection of timeless, amazing and amusing robot stories from the greatest science fiction writer of all time, offering golden insights into robot thought processes. Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics were programmed into real computers thirty years ago at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology - with surprising results. Readers of today still have many surprises in store... The Three Laws of Robotics: 1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm; 2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law; 3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law." CONTENTS: A Boy's Best Friend; Sally; Someday; Point of View; Think; True Love; Robot AL-76 Goes Astray; Victory Unintentional; Stranger in Paradise; Light Verse; Segregationist; Robbie; Let's Get Together; Mirror Image; The Tercentenary Incident; First Law; Runaround; Reason; Catch that Rabbit; That Thou Art Mindful of Him; The Bicentennial Man; The Susan Calvin Stories: Liar; Satisfaction Guaranteed; Lenny; Galley Slave; Little Lost Robot; Risk; Escape; Evidence; The Evitable Conflict; Feminine Intuition; A Last Word.

New York: St. Martin's Press, 2025. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Fine. 6x0x9. Signed by author. First edition. Signed by author on half-title page without inscription. Brand new from publisher. An exceptional copy. 2025 Hard Cover. 276 pp. A new standalone sci-fi novel from Edward Ashton, author of Mickey7 (the inspiration for the major motion picture Mickey 17). Dalton Greaves is a hero. He's one of humankind's first representatives to Unity, a pan-species confederation working to bring all sentient life into a single benevolent brotherhood. That's what they told him, anyway. The only actual members of Unity that he's ever met are Boreau, a giant snail who seems more interested in plunder than spreading love and harmony, and Boreau's human sidekick, Neera, who Dalton strongly suspects roped him into this gig so that she wouldn't become the next one of Boreau's crew to get eaten by locals while prospecting. Funny thing, though―turns out there actually is a benevolent confederation out there, working for the good of all life. They call themselves the Assembly, and they really don't like Unity. More to the point, they really, really don't like Unity's new human minions. When an encounter between Boreau's scout ship and an Assembly cruiser over a newly discovered world ends badly for both parties, Dalton finds himself marooned, caught between a stickman, one of the Assembly's nightmarish shock troops, the planet's natives, who aren't winning any congeniality prizes themselves, and Neera, who might actually be the most dangerous of the three. To survive, he'll need to navigate palace intrigue, alien morality, and a proposal that he literally cannot refuse, all while making sure Neera doesn't come to the conclusion that he's worth more to her dead than alive. Part first contact story, part dark comedy, and part bizarre love triangle, The Fourth Consort asks an important question: how far would you go to survive? And more importantly, how many drinks would you need to go there?

Description
New York/London: The Century Co.. Very Good+ in Good dj. (c.1930). 2nd printing. Hardcover. [solid copy with minor wear to the extremities, light dust-soiling to top edge of text block; the jacket has a shallow triangular chip at the bottom of the front panel, a half-dollar-size chunk torn away from the base of the spine, and a couple of tiny chips along the top edge]. "The story of an English priest who goes to war in 1918 buoyed up by reilgious idealism and imbued with the desire of carry the word of God to the soldiers at the front. But Chaplain Warne, caught in the final desperate German offensive of the war and flung back in the great British retreat that follows, painfully discovers the fact of his own utter uselessness and the futility of the divine mission he had imagined for himself. With terrible restraint we are shown the gradual collapse of this earnest, eager, over-sensitive priest, sinking from fear and depression, down through every degree of morbid self-torture, to madness and death." Great War narratives were all the vogue in the late 1920s -- both the play "Journey's End" and the novel "All Quiet on the Western Front" are evoked (twice!) in the jacket -- .

Rare printing of White's discourse on setting young men on a course towards God and good citizenship. We locate no copies in OCLC or in any reference known to us. "Mr. White is qualified by his own early experiences, to have perpetual interest in boys, especially those likely to fall under adverse influences. His constant observations give an increasing number of personal incidents, continued thought deepens his conviction that there is need of a general awakening of interest in boys, in the enforcement of laws against those who would lead them into dissipation, provide for more loving attention in the house, and more adequate training for citizenship." - from the Introduction by Lyman R. Mears.
