Description
Hundreds of paper samples tipped-in & several text illus. 141; 121 pp. on folding leaves. Two vols. 8vo, orig. semi-stiff wrappers, woodcut title-slip on first vol. (lacking on Vol. II), orig. stitching. [Tokyo: Privately Printed], Prefaces dated 1957. First edition, limited to 100 numbered copies, luxuriously printed throughout on handmade paper, of this magnificent and rare paper specimen work. Seki (1892-1979), an executive at a Japanese paper company, was a leading historian of Asian papermaking. These two volumes contain paper samples — both examples of early printing as well as paper specimens — from China, Korea, Mongolia, Tibet, Burma, and Japan, dating from the Tang dynasty to modern times. Each sample is carefully described in the accompanying printed text. The author has also provided much text on the history of papermaking in East Asia with descriptions of papermaking techniques. With an excellent index. Fine set in the original chitsu.

Description
310 black & white illus., on rectos only. [24] leaves. 8vo (210 x 141 mm.), orig. semi-stiff printed wrappers, perfect-bound. Paris: CNAC, 1974. First edition, an excellent copy of Boltanski’s fifth inventory, documenting all the earthly possessions of a randomly selected person, this time a resident from Bois-Colombes, a suburb of Paris. This book was published for an exhibition (15 October to 2 December 1974) at the Centre national d’art contemporain. Earlier versions of this piece took place in Baden-Baden, Jerusalem, Oxford, and Copenhagen. Boltanski explains the intention of this work in the Avant-Propos (in trans.): “The inventory of objects belonging to a woman from Bois-Colombes is the fifth project of this type that I have created. In its formulation it follows the same rule as the previous projects: to present, without any selection on my part, every item belonging to a randomly chosen person in the city or town where an event is taking place.” In fine condition. ❧ J. Flay, ed., Christian Boltanski, Catalogue: Books, Printed Matter, Ephemera, 1966-1991 (1992), pp. 106-9. A. Moeglin-Delcroix, Esthétique du Livre d’artiste: Introduction à l’art contemporain (2nd ed.: 2012), p. 213.

New. $65. * Reprint of the sole edition. The facsimiles here given are taken from the records of the Fayette Circuit Court and from letters of Abraham Lincoln. A petition was filed in the Fayette Circuit Court, Lexington, Ky., May, 1853, by Edward Oldham and Thomas Hemingway, surviving partners of Oldham, Todd & Company, claiming that Abraham Lincoln collected certain money, as their attorney, which was not paid over. Four depositions, constituting the proof for Lincoln, were filed in the Fayette Circuit Court, November 23, 1853, and so completely was the charge refuted that the plaintiffs on January 16, 1854, filed a motion to dismiss the case, which was done at their cost, February 10, 1854.
