Description
New York: William Morrow and Company, Inc, 1989. Second printing. Near Fine/Near Fine. Extraordinary presentation copy signed and inscribed by the ex Doors manager and Jim Morrison confidant Danny Sugerman to film director Oliver Stone, who went on to make his own annotations and markings as preparation for his 1991 film The Doors. Original white publisher's binding with gilt to spine. Some minor soiling and toning to boards near spine. In the original bright yellow, pink, and orange dust jacket with only the most trivial wear to the crown of spine and corners, and some rubbing to the rear panel. In all, an exceptional association linking this copy both to the Doors and the director who immortalized their story on film. "Here, Sugerman reconstructs his glamorous and desperate life--shadowed, inspired, and nearly doomed by his friendship with rockstar Jim Morrison, leader of the Doors...Morrison was a magical mentor to Danny, a poet-philosopher in the dark lineage of Byron and Rimbaud. Morrison gave Danny the dangerous idea that, in order to grow, brave men tempt death...A cocky, fluent, scary tale of the reckless life, at once an insider's tale of the rock scene, and a story of recovery" (contemporary review, Morrow). Wonderland Avenue became not just a tell-all memoir in its own right, but the basis for an unforgettable film. And the present copy, inscribed by Sugerman to Oliver Stone, was specifically used in Stone's research for the movie starring Val Kilmer. Throughout the pages, Stone leaves underlinings, blockings, and heavy annotations that reveal the process the book underwent in adaptation. An exceptional piece of pop culture. Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket.

Description
London: Atlas Press, 1995. Near-square octavo (23.5 x 21 cm.), unpaginated. Housed in publisher's two-chamber slipcase together with the separately printed fold-out photo-collage "Cubist View of My Room," here in the form of a six-color screenprint by Uldry Serigraphie printed on 105g Tyvek, in printed and embossed chemise and wraparound band. Number 48 of 100 copies, published in the series Atlas Arkhive, documents of the avant-garde. Signed on the embossed front wrapper by Spoerri, Roth, Williams, and Topor (Filliou had died by the time of this publication). Spoeri acknowledges Filliou's absence in his signature, adding, "et tou Robert, [illeg.]!", while Williams's signature includes a small drawing of a figure. A catalogue and detailed analysis of the contents of a table top. An expanded and, one could perhaps say, definitive edition, incorporating all the various additions, embellishments, and extra materials that accrued to the work through various previous editions and translations, going back to Spoerri's original 1962 exhibition pamphlet, and adding a new introduction. The original work itself, one of the great achievements of the Fluxus movement, was a pioneering contribution to the early development of conceptual art. "Imagine Francis Ponge's micro-realisms taken to extremes " (Frank 13). Slightest dusting to the black cloth slipcase, otherwise fine.

"Major General James Wolfe (2 January 1727 - 13 September 1759) was a British Army Officer, known for his training reforms but remembered chiefly for his victory over the French at the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in Quebec in 1759. The son of a distinguished general, Edward Wolfe, he had received his first commission at a young age and saw extensive service in Europe where he fought during the War of the Austrian Succession. His service in Flanders and in Scotland, where he took part in the suppression of the Jacobite Rebellion, brought him to the attention of his superiors. The advancement of his career was halted by the Peace Treaty of 1748 and he spent much of the next eight years on garrison duty in the Scottish Highlands. Already a brigade major at the age of eighteen, he was a lieutenant-colonel by the age of twenty-three. The outbreak of the Seven Years' War in 1756 offered Wolfe fresh opportunities for advancement. His part in the aborted raid on Rochefort in 1757 led William Pitt to appoint him second-in-command of an expedition to capture the Fortress of Louisbourg. Following the success of the Siege of Louisbourg he was made commander of a force which sailed up the Saint Lawrence River to capture Quebec City. After a long siege Wolfe defeated a French force under Marquis de Montcalm allowing British forces to capture the city. Wolfe was killed at the height of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham due to injuries from three musket balls. Wolfe's part in the taking of Quebec in 1759 earned him posthumous fame, and he became an icon of Britain's victory in the Seven Years War and subsequent territorial expansion. He was depicted in the painting The Death of General Wolfe, which became famous around the world. Wolfe was posthumously dubbed "The Hero of Quebec", "The Conqueror of Quebec", and also "The Conqueror of Canada", since the capture of Quebec led directly to the capture of Montreal, ending French control of the country.
