Description
Indianapolis, 1892. 1/4 leather. Near Fine. The first 24 issues of this wonderful monthly, published out of Indianapolis and devoted to street paving. Consists of the first 2 years of the magazine, each year bound into a handsome 1/4 leather over chocolate-brown boards. The first book consists of the June 1890-May 1891 12 issues and the 2nd book consists of the June 1891-May 1892 12 issues. All issues clean, crisp and Near Fine, with one neat former owner name along the top-edge of issue #1's front page. The 2 books housing the magazines have held up very nicely as well. Both clean and bright and Near Fine and both featuring dozens and dozens --if not hundreds-- of steel-engraved illustrations. (From each issue's front cover; "A Journal Devoted Specifically to Street and Sidewalk Paving, Sewerage, Water-Works Construction, Street Lighting and All Matters Pertaining to Muinicipal Engineering").

Description
New York/London: D. Appleton-Century Company. Very Good. 1936 (c.1935). First Edition. Hardcover. (no dust jacket) [modest shelfwear, light water-spotting on front cover, spine cloth a little faded, non-authorial Christmas gift inscription in pencil on front endpaper]. (pen & ink illustrations & chapter-head drawings) A group of boarding-school girls investigate a mystery. The author had published her first book (under her maiden name, Josephine Dodge Daskam) in 1900, a collection of stories set at her alma mater, Smith College. By the mid-1930s she was well-established as an author of juvenile mysteries for girls; per Wikipedia, she also wrote on women's issues and was a pioneer in the Girl Scouts movement. (The copyright on this book is credited to the Girl Scouts, in fact, which suggests to me that it might have been previously published in serial form in some Girl Scout publication.) .
