Sharp 9th Edition, Bound in publisher's original green cloth with titles in gilt on front board. Decorative embossed borders. Numerous illustrations of wine-growing equipment and vines. Square and solid with moderate wear to edges and tips. Some wear to the spine ends with about a half-inch loss cloth to the crown. Board edges toned. Interior pages mildly toned with a few scattered spots of foxing. Previous owner's name and address on front end-paper Important early work on grape growing. The First Edition was published in 1862 and when this Edition was published in 1879, vineyards in Europe and elsewhere were being decimated by Phylloxera and the author in this edition suggested quite sever counter-measures. A very pretty collectable copy of an uncommon book and at a great price. (Gabler p.277 G38890).
