Description
N.p.: N.p., 1950. Vintage eleven-page ribbon copy typescript short story, circa 1940s-1950s, subsequently serving as the basis for the 1972 adult film. Rare. An iteration of an explicit short story penned by an anonymous author sometime before or during World War II, circulated underground in retyped typescript or carbon typescript copies during the 1940s and after. "Behind the Green Door" is notable as one of of the first American hardcore pictures to receive widespread distribution in the US, and one of the first heterosexual pornographic films to feature an interracial sex scene. A breakthrough role for actress Marilyn Chambers, who would go on to become one of the first icons in the adult film industry, and even worked briefly in mainstream cinema. Eleven leaves, last page of text not numbered. Ribbon copy typescript on onionskin stock, rectos only. Pages Good or better, bound with two staples on the top edges.

Description
Philadelphia: Caxton Press of C. Sherman, Son & Co, 1864. Slim octavo (18.7 x 13 cm.), 144 pages. Index. FIRST EDITION. Written by the author as a pastime, A Poetical Cook-Book was published in 1864 and sold to benefit the Civil War’s wounded, widowed, and orphaned. The book features a wide-ranging collection of recipes inspired by famous poems. For many years it was considered the first cookbook sold for a charitable cause (Cook). “A small, plain volume, it featured the standard food of that period—johnnycakes, hasty pudding and the like. The idea worked… because ‘a cookbook was something women could create themselves. And the formula reflected the American ethic. Something needed to be done, and everybody pitched in” (Barbara Haber, Schlesinger Library, Food and Wine). Cookbooks such as this one were written by concerned women and then sold at so-called “sanitary fairs” to raise money for the casualties of the Civil War and their families. Internally clean and sound, with only a tiny bit of foxing to a few pages. Textured brown cloth, gilt-titled at the spine.; rubbing to edges, especially to the head and foot of the spine. Very good. Early ownership inscription to free front endpaper, "K.P. Maderia, Nov. 1870". Rare. [OCLC locates fifteen copies; Cook, page 222].

Description
Philadelphia: Blanchard & Lea, 1860. First American edition. First American edition. 576, 32 pp. Bound in publisher's ornately-blindstamped brown cloth with gilt spine lettering. Very Good+, dulled lettering, cloth a little worn and slightly frayed along edges, a few small scratches to spine, name written on front free endpaper, slight wave to textblock. Nice shape overall. A Victorian psychology text with many accounts of various mental illnesses such as hallucinations, hydrophobia (fear of water), epilepsy, muteness, and brain damage written by the British psychiatrist best-known for his involvement with the Jack the Ripper case. Winslow claimed to have identified the serial killer as lodger G. Wentworth Smith, a theory he propounded for many years so vigorously that at one point Winslow himself was considered a suspect in the crime by police.

Description
Pamphlet, 16mo, original printed wrappers, 64 pp. Light wear, and a couple of very minor edge chips or folds, covers a little faded and aged, slight foxing; otherwise very good plus or better. Somewhat scarce day-by-day accounting of the first year of the Civil War, published in 1862. The title indicates this is the pocket edition, but it's unclear if it was issued in another format. The pamphlet includes a day-by-day account of the war taken from "Official Reports" and daily newspapers. Nice little contemporary account of the war. Sabin 19960.

Description
New York: Penguin Classics, 2011. Reprint. Hard Cover. Fine/No Jacket. 8x5x1. Reprint. Brand new from publisher. 2011 Hard Cover. xxxvii, 250 pp. Edited, with an introduction and notes, by Gillian Beer. At twenty-seven, Anne Elliot is no longer young and has few romantic prospects. Eight years earlier, she had been persuaded by her friend Lady Russell to break off her engagement to Frederick Wentworth, a handsome naval captain with neither fortune nor rank. What happens when they encounter each other again is movingly told in Jane Austen's last completed novel. Set in the fashionable societies of Lyme Regis and Bath, Persuasion is a brilliant satire of vanity and pretension, but, above all, it is a love story tinged with the heartache of missed opportunities.
