Description
New York: Gemor Press, 1945. Very Good +. [New York]: Gemor Press, 1945. First Edition, Limited to 50 de luxe copies on Etruria paper, this unsigned copy presumably hors série. Octavo (24.5cm); publisher's pink pictorial paper-covered boards; 183pp.; hand-colored woodcut frontispiece, four leaves of color plates. Light wear to spine ends, margins toned, brief ink spotting to top edge of rear cover, else a Very Good, internally clean and sound copy. Exceptional example of this de luxe edition of one of the few works to come out of the Gemor Press, which Anaïs Nin and her lover Gonzalo More established in Greenwich Village in 1942. Though named after Gonzalo, Nin raised the money, taught herself to set type, and did the lion's share of the physical work for the press. Distribution in turn was aided by Frances Steloff at the Gotham Book Mart. Many of the works, as is the case here, were illustrated by Nin's husband Hugh Parker Guiler. A trade edition, limited to 1000 copies with uncolored illustrations appeared simultaneously, though this limitation has two extra plates. Franklin A6b.
