Very Good
Description
Hardcover. Very Good. Issues individually paginated. Thick volume (about 8 cm.). Old (contemporary?) leather. 22 cm. Cover spotting, rubbing and wear with front joint splt. Front cover still firmly attached by the cords. Modest scattered foxing. Old Yale University Library bookplate in front pastedown and remnants of an old label on backstrip. Most text double-columned. Missing numbers are 3, 10, 29, 31-35, 38, 48, 62, 70 and 103. We do not know if individual issue are complete because some issues seem to have various additions about the Royal Court or other entities such as at least five issues in this volume which have material in an added section of varying length titled Publication der Privilegirten Orientalische Compagnie. This newspaper was renamed Wiener Zeitung in 1780. The Third Reich closed the newspaper during World War II. The last printed edition was published in 2023 at which time it was regarded as the oldest newspaper still in print in the world.

Description
1564. A Renaissance Law Student's Manual: Balbo on the Law of Property Rights (Venice, 1564) Balbo, Giovanni Francesco [fl. 1510-1518]. [Henricus, de Segusio, Cardinal (Hostiensis) (c. 1200-1271)]. Tractatus Foecundus, et Perutilis de Praescriptionibus: Editus per Clarissimum Iurisconsultum do. Ioannem Franciscum Balbum Taurinensem. Cui Accedit Repetitio Singularis l. Celsus ff. de Usucap. Cum Multis Additionibus & Apostillis, Una cum Dictis Hostien. In Summa de Praescrip. & Usucap. & Cum Summariis & Repertorio Nuper Additis. Venice: [Apud Cominum de Tridino], 1564. [xxxii], 300 pp. Main text in parallel columns. Fol. 1 has woodcut of Balbo instructing a class of students. Octavo (6" x 4"). Contemporary limp vellum, early hand-lettered title to spine, ties lacking. Some soiling, especially to spine, minor wear to corners, some worming to pastedowns and endleaves, a few partial cracks to text block, boards slightly bowed. Some toning to text, light foxing in places. Early annotations and signatures to preliminaries and title page, other annotations and underlining to a few places in text, two inkstains to fol. 224 with minor damage to legibility. $750. * Later edition of a work first published in 1511. This work explores the foundational legal doctrine of 'Prescription'-the process by which long-term possession of land eventually becomes legal ownership-a concept that remains the bedrock of modern property law. This volume is particularly notable for its charming title-page woodcut depicting the author instructing a class of students, capturing the spirit of the Renaissance law school. It includes the influential commentary of Henricus de Segusio (Hostiensis), one of the most celebrated canonists of the Middle Ages. The preliminaries and title page feature early manuscript signatures and annotations, suggesting this copy was a prized tool for a contemporary legal professional. All editions are scarce in North America. OCLC locates 2 copies of the 1564 edition in North America (at Harvard Law School and the Library of Congress). [With] The Other: The Use of the Common Law, for the Preservation of our Persons, Goods, and Good Names. According to the Laws and Customs of this Land. Hardcover. New. $39.95 * The Elements of the Common Laws of England is the general title for a work that is comprised of two different treatises: A Collection of Some Principall Rules and Maximes of the Common Lawes of England and The Use of the Law, Provided for the Preservation of Our Persons, Goods and Good Names. The first contains a set of twenty-five maxims, or regulae. One of the earliest, if not first, collections of maxims on English law, it is remarkable for its stylistic vigor, intellectual rigor, meticulousness and clarity. The second treatise is a review of the history and practical application of criminal law, estate law, personal property law and the law of slander (i.e. "the preservation of our good names from shame and infamy"). The Use of the Law is probably not in fact by Bacon; it was first printed anonymously as Part II of The Lawyers Light (1629) by Sir John Doddridge. Among America's Founding Fathers, Jefferson held Bacon in high esteem. In a 1789 letter to John Trumbull, he said he considered Bacon, Locke and Newton to be "the three greatest men that have ever lived, without any exception." One of the great intellectuals of his era, Bacon [1561-1626] held the posts of Solicitor General, Attorney General and Lord Chancellor during the reign of James I.

Description
Gottingen, Germany: Gottinger Automobil - Club, 1927. Typewritten. Near Fine. Stapled Wrappers. TYPED LETTER SIGNED. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. RARE TLS from Ernst H. Diepholz, Generalvertreter fur Deutschland, B.S.A Motor Bicycles, under his company letterhead, dated 24th Nov., 1927, to British motorcycle racer R.E. Atkinson. Herr Diepholz begins the letter by congratulating Atkinson on his win at that year's Hainberg Rennen ( Atkinson was the winner of the Class B 350ccm race). He then goes on to inform him that B.S.A. is sending him "some spares for your machine free of charge". And concludes by offering to give Atkinson "a special 350 ccm BSA Super Sport motorcycle" should he be willing to enter "the Grand Prix of Europe for motorcycles (which) takes place on the Nurnberg Ring near Cologne on the 2nd or 3rd of July". Those races in 1928 would have marked the 2nd year of racing at Nurburgring ( if they were held- I am unable to find any information on motorcycle races winners, etc.). Along with what were apparently Atkinson's RARE programs for the Hainberg Rennen, the 5th and 6th in this series of hill climb races held in Gottingen, Germany, on May 7th and 8th, 1927 and May 5th and 6rth, 1928. Both programs Near Fine, Dapolin Benzin ( gasoline) advertising sticker front cover 1927 program and rear cover 1928 program., marginal pencil notations with times and other information on the races. Atkinson's name does not appear in the 1928 6. program, however the marginal notations do show him with the fastest time for the 1927 race. A unique and RARE collection of early European motorcycle racing ephemera..
