Description
An original sepia photograph, 8” x 10”, which was featured on the cover of the Images of America book on Ashland, Virginia by Dale Paige Talley. Helpfully pencilled on the verso of the photograph is “The Chorus, Minstrel Show’ | May, 1933’ | “Becky Kerr’s Devastating Damsels” followed by the names of the “Devastating Damsels” .~~The “Damsels” were performing in one of the annual Tucker-Wightman minstrel show. Messrs. Tucker and Wightman were naves of the town and first formed the minstrel show around 1917. It was wildly popular and the performances were always sold out. The “Damsels” in this 1933 image are a “who’s who” of the Ashland social scene.~~A great image of a by-gone era in Ashland, Virginia.
