Edinburgh: Printed for the Author, and sold by William Creech, 1787. Second edition. Near Fine. Edinburgh: Printed for the Author, and sold by William Creech, 1787. Second edition. First Edinburgh edition (first published in Kilmarnock in 1786). First issue, with "Roxburgh" misprinted "Boxburgh" on p. xxxvii in the list of subscribers and "skinking" on p. 263, line 13 (in later issues, the word was misprinted as "stinking"). In a fine and exceptionally beautiful jeweled Cosway-style binding by Sangorski & Sutcliffe at their very best, ca. 1925 (stamp-signed in gilt on rear turn-in). Octavo (212 x 127 mm). xlviii, [9]-368 pp. Complete with half-title and engraved frontispiece by John Buego after Alexander Nasmyth, with tissue guard. The contents occasionally foxed with a few faint marks, discreet professional repairs to small closed tears at fore-edge of A1, 2Y2, and 2Y3. Internally a Near Fine copy, crisp and wide-margined. Bound in full purple crushed levant morocco, both covers triple-ruled in gilt and elaborately tooled in gilt. Twenty-four large flowers on each cover done in cream and yellow morocco onlays. Large circular device in the center of both boards with a different quote by the poet on each. Spine with five raised bands, elaborately decorated and lettered in gilt in compartments. Five of the compartments further decorated with large leaf sprays, each with nine onlaid violet flowers. Double-ruled gilt board edges, elaborate gilt turn-ins with another two quotes from the Poet, including the immortal "Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot And Never Brought To Min' We'll Take A Cup O'Kindness Yet For Auld Lang Syne." The inside front cover in full brown crushed levant morocco with a very fine recessed oval hand-painted portrait miniature under glass, surrounded by a double leaf design in gilt set with four amethyst and two opal gemstones. The rear inside cover in full brown crushed levant morocco, purple silk endleaves, all edges gilt. Housed in the original cream watered silk lined dark red morocco clamshell case. Case expertly repaired and a little rubbed. Preceded by only the rare Kilmarnock edition of 1786, this second edition was published in an edition of approximately 3,250 copies on April 17, 1787. Two printers were used, resulting in variations in some sheets of the edition. This edition includes twenty-two new pieces, including "To a Haggis," and the first appearance in print of "Death and Doctor Hornbook," which had been omitted from the Kilmarnock edition. Egerer 2; Lamont 2; Rothschild 556. Near Fine.

Description
London: David Nutt, 1913. First edition. Hardcover. This is an elusive prize - the first edition, first printing, first binding state of Robert Frost’s first published book, signed by the author. First published in England in 1913, the publication history of A Boy’s Will is complicated by the fact that the reported 1,000 first edition sheets saw two issues in four variant bindings. These many iterations were bound and sold over a period of three decades, owing in part to the bankruptcy of the original publisher (Nutt) and sale of remaining first edition sheets during the subsequent liquidation. It is estimated that “no more than 350 copies” and plausibly as few as 284 were issued thus, in the publisher’s original shiny bronzed brown pebbled cloth “used to bind the first books that appeared.” Known to Frost bibliographers and collectors as “binding A”, these copies “were bound by the Leighton-Straker Bookbinding Co. before 1 April 1913.” Rendering this copy of “binding A” even more compelling than scarcity warrants is Frost’s signature “Robert Frost” on the upper right of the half-title page. Ink, nib, and hand all indicate that Frost’s signature is contemporaneous. Condition of the book is good plus – sound, complete, and unrestored, though showing some befittingly venerable signs of age. The bronzed brown cloth binding is tight, clean, and retains its hue and sheen on the majority of both covers. The spine is sunned, as are the inner edges of both boards adjacent to the hinges. There is lesser toning to a strip of the upper rear cover and the fore edges. The front cover gilt print and decoration remains bright. The cloth shows minor shelf wear to extremities, most notably some fraying at the spine ends. The first issue contents are marked only by the author; we find no previous ownership marks. Spotting is intermittent and light within, more evident on the untrimmed page edges. The signature connecting the half title and title page leaves remains uncut. Iconic American poet and four-time Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Lee Frost (1874-1963), the quintessential poetic voice of New England, was actually born in San Francisco and first published in England. When Frost was eleven, his newly widowed mother moved east to New Hampshire. There Frost swiftly found his poetic voice, infused by New England scenes and sensibilities. Promising as both a student and writer, Frost nonetheless dropped out of both Dartmouth and Harvard, supporting himself and a young family by teaching and farming. Ironically, a 1912 move to England with his wife and children – “the place to be poor and to write poems” – catalyzed Frost’s recognition as a noteworthy American poet. The manuscript of A Boy’s Will was completed in England and published by David Nutt in April 1913. “Yeats pronounced the poetry “the best written in America for some time” and Frost received “two extraordinary tributes in the Nation and the Chicago Dial and a superb review in the Academy.”" (ANB) A convocation of critical recognition, introduction to other writers, and creative energy supported the English publication of Frost’s second book, North of Boston, in 1914, after which “Frost’s reputation as a leading poet had been firmly established in England, and Henry Holt of New York had agreed to publish his books in America.” Accolades met Frost’s return to America at the end of 1914. By 1917 a move to Amherst “launched him on the twofold career he would lead for the rest of his life: teaching whatever “subjects” he pleased at a congenial college… and “barding around,” his term for “saying” poems in a conversational performance.” (ANB) In 1924 he won the first of an eventual four Pulitzer Prizes for poetry (1931, 1937, and 1943). Frost spent his final decades as “the most highly esteemed American poet of the twentieth century” with a host of academic and civic honors to his credit. Two years before his death he became the first poet to read in the program of a U.S. Presidential inauguration (Kennedy, January 1961). Reference: Crane A2

Description
First Edition. Stapled booklet, 64 pp., offset on commercial stock in stiff illustrated wrappers. Illustrated throughout. Folio. Very good. Minor toning, slight edgewear to covers, interiors clean and bright. [2183] A booklet printed on the occasion of the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, on the last day of which Bob Dylan infamously played his first electric set with a backing band, and the first live performance of "Like a Rolling Stone." The booklet features many short articles by the festival's organizers and participants, as well as other writers and journalists, a festival program and schedule, artist bios, and advertisements. One noteworthy inclusion is a text by Bob Dylan: a kind of improvisatory prose story, "Off the Top of My Head," featuring such characters as Horseman, Photochick, Prez, and Miss Flunk. Offered together with the booklet are three pieces of related ephemera, which include: [1] A separately printed schedule and event program for the festival, single blue sheet printed both sides and folded in quarters; a few stray ink marks to one side; [2] A printed tourist brochure for Newport, Rhode Island, dated to the "1965 Season," advertising local points of interest, single sheet printed both sides and folded; and [3] A color map of Newport published by the Newport National Bank, undated, single glossy sheet printed both sides and folded. In all a tidy packet of everything one might have picked up on arrival to Newport for the folk festival.

Description
Photographic Image. Very Good. No Binding. Alan B. Stone was a pioneer of beefcake photography, along with names like Bruce Bellas (Bruce of LA) and Bob Mizer. These photographers provided visual representation for hidden gay desire in a time before the first wave of gay liberation by highlighting the nude physique of male models and athletes. In 1953, Stone began running an international mail-order business, Mike Studio One, for his erotic photographs from his basement in Montreal. There was a documentary made in 2006 as a tribute to Mr. Stone, the cover of which features a photo of Mike Mangione that is part of this offered collection. A fine collection of four 8" x 10" black and white prints from a very high-quality editorial beefcake photo shoot starring a recognizable model from this mid-century era of photography. The model wears a posing strap as he poses for two half-body and two full-body shots in classical and editorial poses. The prints have some curling to the edges, but are otherwise in very good condition. Prints unsigned, model and photographer identified by online searches. .
