(no dust jacket, but laid in are the original front and real flaps) [a good sound copy, moderate wear to extremties, very slight fraying to lower tips]. (Career Books) Series The author's second contribution to Dodd, Mead's "Career Books" series tells of the apprenticeship of enterprising young photographer Joe Spade as he learns the "tricks, trials and traditions" of being a New York news camera man. Van Gelder, who dropped out of school at 16 to become a reporter, had been a New York Times staffer since 1929; he later served several years as editor of the paper's Book Review before writing a satirical novel, "Important People," becoming editor-in-chief at Crown Publishers, Inc., and dying of a heart ailment at 47, in 1952. .
