Description
Berlin: Selbstverlag, Chez l’auteur,, 1801. FIRST AND ONLY EDITION. Printed in German and French with the text in 2 columns. Unbound, sheets folded in signatures, uncut; in absolutely beautiful condition, a phenomenal newly discovered gem. First and only edition of the text volume to Bode’s Uranography published the same year. This text volume was printed separate and apart from the star atlas, which set a new benchmark in the field, proving itself as a true successor to the great atlases of Bayer, Hevelius and Flamsteed. Bode’s atlas is noted for a number of stars lying outside of the constellations, and he proposed the concept of boundaries to these constellations that would, with later adjustments, become “fundamental to astronomy” (Whitfield). Bode (1747-1826) was director of the Berlin observatory and editor of the Astronomisches Jahrbuch. He played an important role in the development of astronomy in Germany, becoming Royal Astronomer and a member of the Berlin Academy. He gave the name Uranus to Herschel’s newly discovered planet. DSB II, p. 220; Warner, p. 39; Whitfield, p. 104.

Publisher’s blind-decorated cloth, worn, hinges weak; a few leaves very browned and stained, vertical tear to 4 leaves in Volume II without any loss to text. First edition, first issue. This is Stowe’s second novel, another anti-slavery tale following Uncle Tom’s cabin. It is the story of a southern plantation run by a slave (who is also the half-brother of the owner-siblings) and the characters surrounding the plantation’s operation. Stowe (1811-1896) was an abolitionist and writer of more than 30 books, many on the conditions experienced by enslaved African Americans. Her novels energized the anti-slavery forces in the North. She was influential in both America and Britain. BAL 19389 (binding A).

First edition; 6 3/4 x 4 1/2; pp. 3-54; stapled, off-white wraps, printed in black; mild age-toning to margins; very good or better condition. Signed and inscribed by Zenzinov to renowned author, journalist, editor, music critic, and publisher Felix Stossinger (in German): "To Comrade Stossinger / best regards / from the Author / V. Zenzinov / Paris / July 18, 1931." Vladimir Mikhailovich Zenzinov (1880 - 1953) was a Socialist-Revolutionary, author, Co-director of the Provisional All-Russian Government and participant in all three of the Russian Revolutions. Between 1905 and 1918, he would be arrested a number of times and sent to various prison camps in Siberia, Yakutia, and China, and he would manage to escape from all but one of them and through circuitous routes over several continents would return to Russia every time. While in Yakutia, Zenzinov wrote several groundbreaking anthropological works on the area and its inhabitants. He emigrated for good in the 1920s, first to Berlin and Paris, where he wrote for some of the most influential emigre journals of the time (Goloss Rossii, Sovremennyia Zapiski, etc.), later to Finland, and finally - to the US. Felix Stossinger (1889 - 1954) was born in Prague and grew up in Vienna, where he was close to Franz Kafka, Otto Pick, and Albert Ehrenstein. He moved to Berlin in 1914 and joined the Social Democratic Party. He was a member of the League for Proletarian Culture, alongside poet Ludwig Rubiner, playwright Arthur Holitscher, and journalist Alfons Goldschmidt. Stossinger fled back to Prague in 1934, after the Nazis seized power, then to France, and finally to Switzerland, where his family spent time in an interment camp in 1942-1943. One copy at Hoover Institution; none in the trade (as of February 2020).

London: Printed for Thomas and George Underwood ...., 1827. First Edition. Contemporary three-quarter leather over binder's cloth.. Very good; binding somewhat dry; two spots on the front cover.. 8vo, xvi, [1] - 146, [2 - adverts] pp. + 12 lithographic plates. A renown work for its introduction of new orthopedic devices for simple and complex cases. The book is an outline of the application of Amesbury's inventions and transcriptions of individual procedures from his case book. He also notes in the introduction that the various apparatus he refers to may be obtained at the shop of Mr Grafton in King Street (Clifton, Directory ...., p. 117 citing later dates and different addresses). Despite the evident hucksterism the treatise is of value for its awareness and treatment of orthopedic problems and collateral issues, e.g., soft tissue trauma accompanying broken bones. In all an informed and remarkably adept treatise. Hirsch I, p. 113.

Description
San Diego, California: IDW, 2019. 1st Printing. Hard Cover. Near Fine/No Jacket - Pictorial Cover. 7x0x9. First printing. Corners bumped. 2019 Hard Cover. 136 pp. In 2011 one of the biggest political events in the world, the Arab Spring, swept across North Africa. But what came next' As the world moves on, four young Tunisians must cope with the reality of an uncertain future in this original graphic novel. Winner of the Raymond Leblanc Foundation's Belgian Prize, and translated into English for the first time, Helene Aldeguer delivers an authentic look at the disillusioned state of young people in Tunisia after the events of the Arab Spring illustrated in stark, beautiful black-and-white. Two years after the "Jasmine Revolution," Tunisia is unstable and facing economic hardship. Saif, Aziz, Meriem, and Chayma are among those who feel abandoned by the developing turmoil surrounding the government. Saif goes to college but worries about his younger brothers; Aziz struggles to find steady employment hoping to gain approval from Meriem's family, while Meriem attends law school; and Chayma, after watching a man set himself on fire, considers emigration to France. As the situation becomes more serious and calls to activism in the streets get louder, each must consider what direction their future lies. Helene Aldeguer spent time in Tunis in October, 2014 covering the parliamentary elections and living among the youth of the city and working alongside Tunisian journalists from Nawaat, an independent collective blog that provided a public platform for dissident voices and was blocked in Tunisia until 2011. Her work focuses on political and social issues related mainly to the Arab-Muslim world and includes the book Un Chant d'Amour: Israel-Palestine, une histoire francaise with writer Alain Gresh and illustrations for the website Orient XXI, which covers news events in countries from North Africa to the Middle East. She was selected for the Young Talent Contest at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2016 for her work, "2011-2016, Resume of a Revolution.
