Description
1863. WASHINGTON, George. Declaration of Independence. Iowa: W.H. Pratt, circa 1865. Large lithographic broadside, measuring 21 by 27-1/2 inches; matted and framed, entire piece measures 30 by 37 inches. $4800.Original large calligraphic portrait lithograph of George Washington created from the text of the Declaration of Independence, with portions of the text highlighted to create a portrait of Washington clearly visible within the text, surrounded by the Great Seals of the 36 post-Civil War states, designed by W.H. Pratt.""In this inventive version of the Declaration of Independence, a bust portrait of George Washington appears within Thomas Jefferson's immortal words. The Great Seal of the United States—featuring a bald eagle—sits above the text, while 36 state seals—one for each state in 1865—appear to sprout from an encircling vine. The designer of this lithograph, William Henry Pratt, also created calligraphy portraits of George Washington within the Constitution and Abraham Lincoln within the Emancipation Proclamation"" (Mount Vernon Collections). Pratt was considered one of the leading practitioners of this art form and Pratt calligraphic portraits are highly collectible even today. This lithograph can be dated to 1865-67, the brief period following the Civil War in which the United States had 36 states (after Nevada's 1864 admission to the United States and prior to the addition of Nebraska). Faintest soiling, light creasing, and some paper repairs. Extremely good.

Description
London: Edward Moxon, 1862. FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE. Original black limp cloth ruled border in blind over yellow endpapers, title in gilt on top cover. The issue without the publisher’s advertisements. An excellent copy from the library of Harcourt Armory. First edition, first issue. “This anonymous index to Tennyson’s well-known elegy on Arthur Hallam refers to each clause of the poem under the most important noun, verb, &c., in it, and contains about 3000 references in double columns.” It is known that Carroll first suggested and then edited the work, though much of the compiling was done by his sisters. Tennyson gave his personal permission to have the work published. At the time of this publication (first printing no later than March, 1862), “In Memoriam” was in its eleventh edition; according to Williams, “the earliest copies in yellow paper covers have no advertisement.” Williams, Madan, Green, 31.

Tan cloth library binding with leather title labels mounted on spine. 23 cm. "Labor Law Library" stamped in red ink inside front cover. Carnegie-Illinois sought an injunction against certain alleged illegal actions by the striking union. The complaint was filed in January, 1946. The lower's court's action was upheld in April, 1946. This book came to us indirectly from the library of the deceased son of a later named partner in the law firm which represented the plaintiff in this case.

Description
Wien: Verlag für Moderne Kunst, 2015. Hardcover. New in shrinkwrap. Purple cut-out boards revealing color-illustration. 72 pp. Color illustrations. Exceptional Editions complements and continues the catalogue of works published in 2013 by Verlag Moderner Kunst Mel Ramos. Exhibitional Prints. It includes all special editions by Ramos ; sculptures, works on enamel, backlit frames and bas-relief works ; but also the prints published since 2013. Like his fellow painters Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, US artist Mel Ramos takes on motifs from mass media and advertising. Ramos is Pop Art artist, painter of pin-up girls, a representative of abstract Expressionism and has even been named the quintessential American figurative painter. In the early 1960s, he attracted attention with painted appropriations of Comic-book heroes such as Batman and Superman, and with his popular subjects he occupies a firm place in the highest echelons of the international Pop Art movement. In the mid-1960s, he started incorporating pin-ups into his paintings, which he combines in a drastic manner with consumer products. Born 1935 in Sacramento, California he parodies trivial advertising strategies and is one of the last living great artists of the American Pop Art movement. -FirstSearch.
