Total edition of 133 copies. Our copy is one of 15 copies in Japon Nacre numbered in Roman from I to XV, with a suite of 6 original Linoleum cuts in color by Alberto Magnelli, each signed and numbered in pencil, and an extra suite of original linoleum cuts, in black signed and numbered in pencil. Complete of the original dark green cloth case, that includes two original photographs of Andre Villers, portraits of the artist in his studio, tipped inside. All the prints are well preserved in the original dark green chemise, secured inside the case. The case is slightly worn on the corners. Elephant Folio, in pristine condition. More pictures on request.

First edition illustrated by Henri Toulouse-Lautrec with a double-page two-tone lithographic cover and 10 out-of-text lithographs, as well as 6 reproduced culs-de-lampe. One of 355 copies (N. 137) on Velin d'Arches with 2 suites (one printed on China paper and one on velin ), from of a total edition of 380 copies. Generally in very good condition. the prints on China paper present with some spotting in the margins. Some text pages are stained in the margins. Ref: Monod, I-2868; Delteil 235

20/09/1922. Florence Kling Harding’s discovery of her husband’s affair in 1922 with Nan Britton took its toll on her health. In early September 1922 she came down with a serious kidney ailment, and the public was alerted as to the severity of it on September 8 in a medical bulletin, and the eminent physician Charles Mayo was called in. By the time he arrived, she was suffering from sepsis and was falling in and out of consciousness. News of Florence’s illness sparked an outpouring of support throughout the country. It sparked many editorials in newspapers and a rumor that she had passed, which was dispelled. By September 11 her condition had worsened so that, as she later related, she had a near death experience seeing two figures at the end of her bed. Florence insisted she would not die because her husband needed her. As she fought back from what she called the “Valley of Death”, Florence spontaneously relieved an obstruction and required bed care from the nurses. Her condition gradually improved to the point that Dr. Mayo did not feel his service was necessary by October.Typed letter signed as president, White House letterhead, Washington, September 20, 1922, to author and diplomat Charles Underwood Johnson. “I am more than grateful to you for your thoughtful and sympathetic letter of September 19th. I know Mrs. Harding will appreciate, as much as I do, the very great concern which was expressed In her behalf, and I shall be glad to tell her of your letter when she is able to appraise it properly.”

Cincinnati, 1876 and 1883: Aticot" Antiquarian Booksellers. Approx. 8 3/4" x 3 3/4" and 8 1/2" x 3/ 3/4" These checks were printed by Krebs of Cincinnati for the Carson City Savings Bank, which was incorporated in 1875. One was issued for gold (1876), another for currency (1883). Since those that could be used for gold were still preferred in the West over currencies in the late 19th century, they often relied on Krebs whose bonds could not easily be counterfeited. As some printers developed high quality fake checks, the stamps and signatures became the primary means of determining legitimacy, Scarce to find both Krebs items together.
