Description
London: Callow, 1807. hardcover. very good. Illustrated with 4 exquisite colored stipple engravings (foxed) & further commentaries on the doctrines of Mr. Hunter. 4to, rebound in green cloth. London, 1807. Second Edition. Very good. Proksch I, 259. The chief work of Adams (1756-1818), a respected practitioner and physician to the Small Pox Hospital. In this work Adams defends John Hunter, of whom he was a great admirer, against various attacks by his detractors, as well as presents his own work on contagion and preventative measures, including inoculation and vaccinations. The four fine engraved plates printed in colors, which are very striking, illustrate skin lesions and other external characteristics of various diseases.
